SirHumphreyAppleby: For those eager to get your hands on one, according to http://www.rbnz.govt.nz/notes_and_coins/anzac-coin/Index.html (the link in the original post)...

"The coin will be available in New Zealand Post/Kiwibank stores from 23 March, 2015 and will be sold at ‘face value’ – 50 cents."

Totally sux for me... I live in Adelaide.

If I find one I'll grab it for you.

Just up the page a bit ;-)

Got mine in the mail the other day. Now i'm not sure what to do with them. Might use some, give some away and hold on to some. Unless someone finds some fault, at which point i'll scour them for faults and keep those, heh.

I'm wondering where mine are! Would have thought I would have them in hand yesterday. Maybe they'll arrive shortly.

Has anyone been in to NZ Post or KiwiBank and got any over the counter?

That is awesome that they're in circulation!

It will be interesting to see how many actually make it into, and stay in circulation.

I gave the stamps and collectables place a ring yesterday and they have been inundated I guess. They are working their way through the orders.

My coins still have not arrived so I've just call NZPost Coins & Stamps and they inform me that mine are "batched" but not yet released. Seems there is a huge back log of orders to process and they are being done in an order which is not that of when orders were placed.

Waiting... waiting... waiting...

I ordered mine fairly late, received them Monday.

They are pretty cool. I got the collector one too (cardboard info thing with coin in plastic). Giving them out to friends for their kids.

Apparently they are minting 1,000,000 of them, so they shouldn't be too rare.

thats only one for every 4 people, so if lots of people are getting rolls of 20 and stashing them, then yeah quite rare.

While I agree with your idea, that's not really how rarity works.

Let's say everyone that can buy rolls of 20 does and so "only" 50,000 people buy them. Assuming that the rest of the population cares enough to want one and are happy to pay over face value for it, that drives the price up which encourages sellers into the market and brings the price back to equilibrium. In the end, the "price" is driven by supply and demand and, I think, there is enough supply to keep the market value around 50c. If a small enough number of buyers could hoard all the coins and create artificial scarcity then maybe they would become "rare" but I don't think that will be the case.

For comparison, the new old 20c had about 5,000,000 minted in 1990 and I saw heaps of them in the wild.

I received mine last Tuesday and hate to admit it, but I was surprised how small they are.  I havent used cash for a few years now.  I only use eftpos for everything.

Mine would've been delivered on Saturday but I got them delivered to work, so I got them yesterday. Pretty nice looking. I very much enjoyed taking the coins from "mint" to "used". wink

How long is the black expected to last?
