joker97: i found this after i ordered the said tablet. I dare you to order one and restore some faith in humanity :)

That would be like going to Nigeria to recover the money you lost in the last Nigerian scam.

Just to add another data bit, I purchased a Pipo X7 through Aliexpress. Initially I had a lot of problems with it. When I tried to get support I just received runarounds and denials. They were not prepared to repair or replace it. Eventually I gave up. I was able to fix it myself with a lot of support from others and a lot of researching but the seller was not prepared to back the warranty and I will never buy anything else valuable or complex through any Chinese site. It just isn't worth the hassle.

Based on my experience, Aliexpress seems to give sellers a lot more protection than Ebay. Ebay seems to give buyers more protection. If you buy something from overseas that is say $20, if it arrives defective, you are unlikely going to send it back, as the price to send back via NZ post will likely be higher than what you paid. But with Aliexpress, you are unlikely to get a refund if you don't send it back.

Depends on the seller. They all list their refunds policies on the listing. If you simply go for the cheapest you will probably find they dont let you keep with a full refund if not as described. Scroll down till you find a seller that does.

I think it is also due to ebay using paypal, which gives a lot more consumer protection. eg Paypal will refund you directly if you are not happy with the sellers solution, and sellers can get a bad reputation with paypal if they are constantly having problems. But the same doesn't seem to apply to Aliexpress, as I don't believe they use Paypal. So one of the main ways to get  a refund with Aliexpress if you are not happy, is to get your bank to do a chargeback, which is more of a hassle, and can cost. So it doesn't end up being worth it on cheaper stuff.

For what it's worth I've placed 39 orders via Aliexpress over the last 5 years. Only two items have been substantially not as described: one was a ludicrously-priced "64GB" thumb drive that I bought to test their refund policy (they did refund after a lot of wriggling from the seller) and one was a fake "Xiaomi" power bank, which still worked OK so I didn't mind too much.

Most of my purchases were bike lights, adapters and electronic modules, I wouldn't bother trying to get cheap branded goods there but they are great for simple generic products.

And sometimes you can stumble across a real gem of a product like these amazing bike lights.

331 orders for me. 3 or 4 I have had to sort out something faulty. 1 went as far as a refund.

I've had less trouble with Ali express than eBay. Have only bought cheap screen protectors/cases. I bought a genuine fake otterbox from a dodgy aussie on ebay who refused to admit it was a fake. I gave up and gave bad feedback. The whole eBay system is geared to give good feedback or resolve it outside of eBay neither of which was an achievable outcome. I prefer dx.com

Out of all our purchases from aliexpress, I have applied for 2 refunds and got full refunds each time.
(1 because a incorrect item was sent, and another because it wasn't as advertised.)
Have bought all sorts of things from couch legs (4 chrome legs delivered all up for $20nz)
to bluetooth headsets.
Great site.

richms: Ive bought a couple of cheap android phones off there. Work as expected for the rubbish mediatek chipset. No problems with them.

Im tempted to get a tablet since it seems that locally the cheap androids are marked up absurd amounts, but the OPs post has made me re-think that slightly.

ROFL

An"Android" tablet with an UI that looks like Windows 8.

Yeah, right.

They are actual windows 8.1 tablets if you order that model. But after the useless HP stream I dont want any more atom based tablets. Too slow for anything.

Friend has a different chinese 8.1 tablet. Screen is so bad that in landscape everything looks like it has a gradient applied over it. Battery gets about 2 hours of browsing. Audio out is so noisy that you cant even use headphones with it. Just junk. But they sell to people that want a cheap tablet to entertain kids.

Can I ask - when it says full refund on returning the item - how does that work.
Obviously the buyer protection/dispute period will expire once the product is returned.
Anyone can shed light?
