(Nz20c/square is nearly a dollar per visit even on my Scrooge parents 4Square rule!)

It was just an illustrative example. Actual price not so execrable.

Have just been in Tesco Superstore, Hackney Central, and the actual price for a budget brand is 19.8p/100shts. Converted to Godzone that's less than 2c/4Square attempt.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

I don't know why the US doesn't try and absorb Mexico. Give Mexicans unlimited access across the border, and let Americans buy up Mexican property (I have no idea if non Mexicans can buy property in Mexico or not).

It will be annexing by stealth.

Edit. I've just looked at wiki. Mexico has 122m people. That is rather a lot, that could be quite the burden on an economy. Or it would be great access to cheap labour.

It already is great access to cheap labour. Really cheap labour, since they don't get social security, etc, and can be paid below legal minimum wage.

The Marsala restaurant chain debacle in Auckland, and other similar cases in NZ show that it can happen here, but at least there's some chance that they'll be caught and prosecuted.

There's a problem with penalties/compensation and reporting of such crimes in NZ. Typically, the "penalties" may be relatively small fines - a smack on the hand - combined with a larger total sum paid to the exploited workers which is only just making up for the deficit between what they were being paid, and what they should have been paid. If they want to nail this kind of abuse, then the fines need to be larger, and the compensation paid to abused workers needs to be increased in order to encourage more to come forward (or more realistically and hopefully - to put enough fear of consequences into the scumbags that they'd never take the risk). This is hardly a "left wing" suggestion. If you were running a legitimate business complying with labour laws, then it's unreasonable that you'd be competing with some scumbags down the road who've cheated the system and broken laws in order to cut costs.
