Sadly very much correct. There is (to my eyes anyway) a very noticeable but sick trend amongst the usual internet warriors and pseudo-liberals to get all outraged over the deaths of animals whilst being almost completely indifferent to the suffering of other humans, including children and especially suffering humans of other races and colours etc.

But as always humans are at the top of the food chain and nothing else matters....

That is just it, what value is a human life. In NZ with drug and operation funding, they must have a value they put on it, otherwise they would fund all the life saving drugs and operations that exist. As that is far more important than eg. paying for a pointless flag referendum. The fact that they don't shows that they do have values they put on human lives. A gorilla must be worth a million at least I would have thought.

But if you look at it this way, if they hadn't shot it, then they would likely face lawsuits from the family, this is America after all. It is liekly that if their caging was better, this could have been prevented. So you could basically say the poor caging is what killed it in the end. I wonder though if they could have used high dose tranquilizers, even if there was a risk of killing the gorilla as a result.

On this logic, we should wipe out a bunch of Indonesians for the benefit of Orangutans, Indians for tigers, Chinese for pandas, NZers for kiwi, Japanese for whales, English for badgers, Americans for bison, ... In fact, we should kill enough people to make the human species endangered.

You have taken what I wrote completely out of context, I am not saying that we should start "wiping out" people. 1 person vs the possible extinction of a species I would vote to protect that species.

This case is no different than a shark attack in Aust. Humans are swimming in a sharks habitat and get attacked and its somehow the sharks fault and it needs to be hunted and killed. When will us humans learn that we are NOT the only animal on this planet, instead we would rather wipe out forests because we are greedy and kill innocent animals because we want to be able to do anything we want and feel safe.

Once we lose a species its gone forever, we never seem to miss what we have until its gone.

Yes, I did take it out of context. I read it as "that specific gorilla was more important than a human life". But I realise from the context you've added that I may have misunderstood... Are you saying that the gorilla *species* is worth more than one human life?

Dogs aren't a critical endangered species, sadly, to some, neither are humans!

Dogs aren't a critical endangered species, sadly, to some, neither are humans!

But it is factually accurate, humans are not endangered, our population growth is exponential.

I agree. A lot of people here are stating that human life comes before any other species, but not a single one of them has given a specific reason as to why that should be the case.

Put a human in a group of gorillas. You think the gorilla will spare the human? He would be dismembered within minutes. Put a gorilla in a group of humans. The humans will kill each other before shooting the gorilla. That's why.

Gorillas are renowned for their gentleness and lack of aggression. Why that particular gorilla behaved as it did with that particular child I cannot say, but I would guess that a lone human in a group of gorillas probably has a better survival chance than a lone human in a group of other humans. At this very moment I am hearing on the news reports of people slaughtered by fanatics in Bangladesh, refugees drowning on the coastlines of Europe, civilians being caught in the cross-fire as efforts are made to reclaim cities from Daesh, new bombings in Afghanistan, yet more Syrian deaths, etc. etc. etc.
