how much are those risers? how about their quality?

Looks like about $7-10 each. I haven't used them so don't know about quality but they will be unused and they have the 6 pin connector on the board plus came from a seller with thousands of sales and good feedback on them.

I am sure it was... However it's my belief that it's going to be wildly less profitable in 6 months from now than it was 3-6 months ago...

Even if I could find reasonably priced video cards in stock anywhere, I have zero confidence that I'd ever see a return from them.

The simple fact that it's been wildly profitable for a while and has attracted so many miners into the various cryptocurrency mining efforts means that the difficulty will increase and therefore the payout has necessarily got to go down.

I'll let someone else take the punt on buying thousands of dollars worth of video cards :-)

So there was a brief period there, when the price spiked in etherium. And a lot of people jumped on the mining wagon. Probably about the beginning of June.

Since then two things have happened. The difficulty has gone from about 600TH/s to 1200T/Hs. The price has dropped from ~$380 to about ~$200. This price drop was always expected. Its taking twice as long to obtain 1 ether as it was about 2 months ago. Yes it potentially is still profitable. At some point you wont be able to mine Etherium. I suspect this could rupture its value, but in what direction it is still unknown.
