I was put into a typing class at high school. Loathed it. Snuck out and joined friends tech drawing class. It took 6 weeks for the teachers to notice so they let me stay.

Still don't care and after a creer in IT, found it didn't matter.

Of course my reading speed made up for it when having to helpdesk quickly...but touch typing? Meh.

I used to be really fast, I learned by praying PK MUDs over twenty years ago. It was be quick or die! Now my hands are buggered up- I'll give it a shot tomorrow on my PC anyway.

Excellent MUDing memories return :D

Yep, I was forced into Tech Drawing as at that time (in RSA) only girls were expected to ever need typing skills 🙄

I get 78WPM with 3 fingers and a thumb on the space bar... playing text based games in Uni definitely made a huge difference for me too!

Is there one of these tests for Unix commands per minute? I’d probably be quite good at that.

I type about 100 words per minute, but then after proof reading, correcting typos, adding in the missing words I *thought* I typed......probably more like 15 wpm.

That comes just before the OOS test and having your forearms in casts for weeks.

in the 90s, the guy who used to update the NZ DNS all by himself at Waikato Uni ended up barely able to use his hands..... Maurizio will know who I'm thinking of. Rex someone? About the time we were on the ISOCNZ Board together.
