Hard to put my finger on the best. It's a bit like asking what's your favourite song, depends on mood and circumstances.
Have had many a good night with the boys and beersies. Yet at other times a quiet family one, just the four of us, with some good quality meats and a variety of exotic salads can't be beat.

Interesting BBQ old excavator bucket, Punakaiki Westcoast.
Was a massive rusted out bucket, at a very clapped out of bach we rented for a weekend.

The best BBQ I can remember was on Lake Tarawera while fishing off this. When I go into remission I will be able to do it again and maybe take some shots with a Nokia

As a vegetarian, I don’t do BBQs very well but I have still managed to attend a lot of them. One was at the birthday party of a friend on a beach in northwest Holland. A beautiful, soft, sunny afternoon of the kind only experienced in the Netherlands, terminated by an abrupt end-of-the-world thunderstorm of the kind only experienced in the Netherlands that sent us all drunkenly scrambling through the deluge with barbecue bits and pieces down the long, long beach back to the parking area as we bitterly wished we hadn’t been lured so far by the treacherous sunny afternoon.
When I came to New Zealand, my entire life was one long barbie. I stayed with a friend who was a barbecue animal. Every weekend, sometimes during the week, he would be outside with the beer and sausages surrounded by crowds of people neither of us had ever seen before. Once we attended someone else’s BBQ and ended up at the wrong one. No-one noticed, not any of our group and also none of the hosts. It didn’t matter.
These days I am retired from the barbecue life, though I still end up at the occasional sedate birthday do. My friends all know to reserve a spot on the grill away from the meat for my veggie hamburgers. It has worked well over the years.
This is a random photo from an event I organised at Morere many years ago to celebrate something or other. Inevitably, the BBQ attracted the usual collection of hovering blokes, like mosquitoes to a fresh body.
Edit: I forgot to add which was best. This one was, because it is the only one I could find a photo of.

I live in Australia now, with a few aussies ( They aren't all that bad).
My workmate and neighbour asked me at work, did I smell any gas the other night, I said No.
He did. So he alerted the authorities , maybe we had a gas leak in the mains from the street.
The fire brigade arrived and the SES looking for a gas leak. Turns out , no one had turned off the cylinder on the BBQ, the apartment is
n't connected to gas.

We were staying at a hut in the bush and decided we needed a bbq, so we gathered a heap of rocks to build something to contain the fire and hold the hot plate. My brother lined the rocks up and spent about 3 hours trying to work out how they should all fit together for the perfect stone surround with little progress. We were all getting hungry so my wife stepped in, built a stone surround in about 10 minutes and got the fire going and the food cooking! :)
It is a wonderful view from there.
