Hard to put my finger on the best. It's a bit like asking what's your favourite song, depends on mood and circumstances.

Have had many a good night with the boys and beersies.  Yet at other times a quiet family one, just the four of us, with some good quality meats and a variety of exotic salads can't be beat.

(boring random pic of Masport included for double-entry purposes)

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Best BBQ I've been to, or at least the funniest, was in the porch area of the residence of @scottjpalmer a number of years ago when he was living a few floors up in a Tory Street apartment block. Someone forgot to close the ranch sliders didn't they Scott? The smoke alarms went off and the whole apartment block had to be evacuated, didn't it Scott? Pretty much the whole local CBD fire brigade turned up to deal with it didn't they Scott? Being a fireman yourself, you didn't get much sh*t [/sarcasm] did you Scott?

Unfortunately, at the moment I can't find the video of the fire trucks filling lower Tory Street, hopefully I haven't deleted it.

The best BBQ I can remember was on Lake Tarawera while fishing off this. When I go into remission I will be able to do it again and maybe take some shots with a Nokia laughing

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

@CitizenErased  No reply from so I'm thinking I missed your joke in your post - not really you in the photo? Caught out maybe? Never actually had a BBQ in Antarctica? Not sure if the vessel was Akademik Ioffe? laughing

The time me and a bunch of friends rented out an entire campsite and found they had a fire pit and we tried cooking stuff by jamming meats (and many marshmallows) into the fire..

As a vegetarian, I don’t do BBQs very well but I have still managed to attend a lot of them. One was at the birthday party of a friend on a beach in northwest Holland. A beautiful, soft, sunny afternoon of the kind only experienced in the Netherlands, terminated by an abrupt end-of-the-world thunderstorm of the kind only experienced in the Netherlands that sent us all drunkenly scrambling through the deluge with barbecue bits and pieces down the long, long beach back to the parking area as we bitterly wished we hadn’t been lured so far by the treacherous sunny afternoon.

When I came to New Zealand, my entire life was one long barbie. I stayed with a friend who was a barbecue animal. Every weekend, sometimes during the week, he would be outside with the beer and sausages surrounded by crowds of people neither of us had ever seen before. Once we attended someone else’s BBQ and ended up at the wrong one. No-one noticed, not any of our group and also none of the hosts. It didn’t matter.

These days I am retired from the barbecue life, though I still end up at the occasional sedate birthday do. My friends all know to reserve a spot on the grill away from the meat for my veggie hamburgers. It has worked well over the years.

This is a random photo from an event I organised at Morere many years ago to celebrate something or other. Inevitably, the BBQ attracted the usual collection of hovering blokes, like mosquitoes to a fresh body.

Edit: I forgot to add which was best. This one was, because it is the only one I could find a photo of.

When i was a kid we had family Christmas etc out at Te Kaha on the Eastcape with a few other families.  Anyway the usual schedule was all the dads are off fishing all day and us kids would hang back out the campground with the mum's etc.  Well one day, the mum's went off for a drink at the local as it was NYE so it was just us kids left, however one of my dad's mates GF turned up late to enjoy NYE with everyone.  It was about 6pm and we were all starving as no one was back so the GF starts to find stuff to make dinner with.

That's when she comes across the old rust bucket that is the communal BBQ, the grill still shining away from all the East Cape Kingfish oil from feasts prior.  We warned her not to touch it, same as we were told because it was right bastard of a BBQ, she persists probably just as hungry as we were, after she drove 4 hours.  Several clicks and cursing later and still not flame was catching.  Finally she had a look into it and kept clicking and BOOOF massive fireball right up in her face and goodbye eyebrows.  Us kids couldn't keep it together and just burst out laughing and she stormed off.  5 minutes later the dads turned up with all the fish and dad's mates GF left 8am the next day on New year day.

My favorite BBQ was from a trip back home to Michigan. My entire family got together at my uncles place and had BBQ ribs. It was great to see everyone and we all had a great time. I look forward to being able to make it back again and see everyone in the future.

I live in Australia now, with a few aussies ( They aren't all that bad).

My workmate and neighbour asked me at work, did I smell any gas the other night, I said No.

He did. So he alerted the authorities , maybe we had a gas leak in the mains from the street.

The fire brigade arrived and the SES looking for a gas leak. Turns out , no one had turned off the cylinder on the BBQ, the apartment isn't connected to gas.

I once hosted a family barbecue using a big old gas BBQ. After about ten minutes, everything ground to a halt due to the gas running out and I had to drive off for half an hour to get a gas bottle refill.

This was in 2004 I think and the whole family still goes on about it at every barbecue. Every single one, without fail!

My favourite barbecue memory was time we went to cook dinner and there was an almighty crash as bits of metal fell to the deck - it had completely rusted through! I was not a fan of that barbecue so I was secretly quite happy. The next morning I was on my way out and noticed the next door neighbours were having a garage sale and there was a very fine looking six burner stainless steel barbecue in their driveway. So much nicer than the el cheapo one that had just died. $150 dollars later, a handsome new barbecue sat on our deck. (They even delivered for free!)

Really good memories of a family BBQ in Clifton, Hawkes Bay, many years ago. The fishermen came back in the afternoon with lots of snapper and my BIL and I got the cheeks to cook. Beautiful! No bones, either.

We were staying at a hut in the bush and decided we needed a bbq, so we gathered a heap of rocks to build something to contain the fire and hold the hot plate. My brother lined the rocks up and spent about 3 hours trying to work out how they should all fit together for the perfect stone surround with little progress. We were all getting hungry so my wife stepped in, built a stone surround in about 10 minutes and got the fire going and the food cooking! :)

It is a wonderful view from there.
