Forgot about this

A couple of weeks ago I sold a S7 Edge and the buyer emailed me to say it turned up with a crack in the screen which I found a bit suspect as it was in the original box and the boxed was bubble wrapped. So after a few emails back and forth, it was easier to just refund the amount plus the return shipping fee once the phone got back to me.

This is where it gets even more suspect.

The phone turned up without the packaging and with a protective case which had been glued onto the phone. When I queried why a case is glued on to the phone they said “it’s because it falls off” and than said can you please refund the money immediately as they were travelling overseas the very next day and needed the money.

At this point I’m very suspicious so I grab the original receipt so I can compare the IMEI numbers, well I boot the phone up and a AT&T splash logo appears lol I rip the case off and sure enough the back glass has a AT&T logo on it, now I see why the case was glued on. I get curious and check the buyers feedback and sure enough they bought an S7 Edge with a cracked screen for $100 a week earlier which has the exact same crack lol.

I email back and tell the buyer they are full of crap etc etc (no reply) and I leave appropriate feedback.

Well today I get an email asking me to send back the phone “yep as soon as you deposit some money in my account for the freight” the reply I got was “eff you eff this I’m a scammer and a rip-off etc etc”

I just replied “lol”

Besides the crack the phone works ok.

sure did, got the usual automated response about looking into it etc, they asked for photos of the device and I sent them that and the IMEI numbers not matching. I’m not holding my breath.

langi27: Don't see TM getting any better unless they seriously drop the fees and if they do it might be too late. Seems to be a drug we are all weening ourselves off.

This. So much. The fees put me off massively and I won't list unless there's a fee exemption in place. The local Salvation Army shop had done reasonably well out of us as a result.

With stuff I have managed to sell (when people actually bid instead of merely 'watching'), I've always specified pick up only. Unlike the OP I've never experienced any issues around this. Fortunate I guess.

Handsomedan:

I'd much rather they come around and inspect it, THEN press buy now and pay up. Buy Now is a contract.

How does this work on TM without breaking the T&Cs by swapping contact information?

My reading is that, to stay within the rules, all questions about condition etc need to be sorted out via the Q&A feature, which can be really frustrating; there are many things I'll just not buy as I'm not prepared to take that risk.

I bought my kids a couple of bikes last year off TM; from the descriptions and answers to questions you'd have thought both were in a similar (excellent) condition; well, one of them was, but the other was a real disappointment - and this stuff didn't show up in the photos either.

I get that TM don't want people circumventing their site as the place to conclude a sale, but equally this stupid rule really @$#%#s with the purchase process!

Ha, my facebook marketplace winner of my table tennis table collected it today. But they had no trailer (full sized table).   So, they strapped it to the roof of their car... they were far braver than me.     I checked the online news site a bit later to see if there were any reports of a crashed table tennis table on the roads.

I think I'll try to use facebook marketplace more often. Especially good for face to face sales.

I say bring back the good ol'fashioned buy-sell-&-exchange phone-ins on local morning radio shows.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Site upgrade work is underway.

Trade Me will be unavailable between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Strange time to take the site offline...

Have to say I've more or less given up on selling the smaller value items on Trademe because of the hassle factor.  I hate wasting things or throwing something out but have been doing that just recently.

I've been donating all sorts to good causes like hospice and our local spca.

I always donate what can be used by the likes of the Sallies, but small geeky electronics are too hard to sell and no use to them.
