Would any parent on here let their 7 year old boy spend the night  in MJ's bedroom when he was alive......just saying

They did.

I think the documentary provides some insight into how MJ managed this. He was the world's biggest star, a living legend, and his targets were working class families. He set out to make ordinary people feel very special, lifting them out of the mundane and into an elite life of mega wealth and megastars. Yet he acted child-like, innocent and vulnerable when alone with them. He earned their trust; he needed them and became part of their family. It's hard to imagine what this type of manipulation does to a vulnerable psyche - the world's biggest megastar has chosen you and your family to become his family.

Or, in short, he methodically groomed them. He was patient, cunning and predatory and in the end he won the trust he had set out achieve. And once he had it, he was free to routinely sexually abuse their children.

Would it happen today? Who knows, the world today is a lot different than it was 30 years ago.

I have no doubt he is guilty, Freds summary is comprehensive. Did MJ groom? I'd say so. Did some of the families accept the grooming and the money and the money and the money? Yes I'd say some did. Did some of these see what was happening and go along to get the money? I'd say some did. I dont recall kids and families screaming through the rafters for years, I see many got paid out though. We see many top names go down using their position to abuse, in MJ's case I feel there was an amount of both ways going on. Perhaps that clouded the court case, leaving it in doubt

I said in the other thread that while Jacko was a true weirdo and in no doubt a paedo, I am amazed at the clarity of the recall of the two men when they were 7 years old. While Jacko did a lot of grooming, I am sure a lot went on to help the 2 men recall their experiences as 7 year old.

This kind of crime has been happening since Adam and Eve and it will continue until we no longer occupy this planet.

Some people seem to think I am defending MJ. I am not. I am merely commenting on the misplaced over-the-top hysteria and faux outrage currently being rolled in by many. MJ has been made a target by the documentary, which contains graphic accusations that are very likely true, though I don't know if any have actually been proven. I do wonder what purpose is being served by this? Jackson has been dead for many years. He cannot offend again. His victims are adults. So what is the point of all the graphic detail? Is it supposed to be some kind of warning? It all seems a bit gratuitous to me.

Will no-one think of the children, honk the geese? Certainly no-one seems to be thinking of Michael Jackson's children. How must they feel as this rages around them? How would you feel if the world was saying these kinds of things about your father, even if they were true? Or do the geese believe in guilt by association? MJ can't be punished so persecute his kids instead? Visit the sins of the father on the children? Has anyone even considered how this must affect them? Or maybe they deserve it as a kind of retribution for the pain MJ caused other people's children? The BS is thick and stinky here.

I'm not.  While the accounts may have been embellished / changed / reinforced by being brought up time and time again, thus possibly inconsistent, under the circumstances ask yourself if you'd remember from when you were 7:

Being whisked away from home to a fantasy-land by your greatest hero, showered with gifts and favours.

Having your first adult sexual experiences with that person, when you were 7...

Memorable isn't the right word.  Unforgettable, extremely damaging to your future life and relationships, it's catastrophic.

I can remember plenty of events from when I was that age, I was seriously injured in an accident, even some trivial aspects of that traumatic event and the aftermath I can recall with photographic clarity.

You may have a point, but this is the type of counterargument which has been proposed in reaction to cases of "{religion-x} ritual abuse" or cult induction in the USA and other countries over the years. The trouble is though that, people vary widely in the accuracy of their recall of traumatic events at any age and when verifiable PTSD has been caused, there's often some highly intense and somewhat accurate recollection which is verifiable. An example which comes to mind is US marine soldiers and the psychological trauma from having committed possible warcrimes under command duress during the Vietnam, Iraq or Afghan wars.

Of course peoples recall is affected by many factors after the event, which is why Police here at least have to try and get a description of a reported situation as quickly as possible while still allowing for the effects of shock and adrenaline in the victims of crime. It's a trade-off between factors.

Geektastic:

I don't even know what he is supposed to have done, to be honest and whatever it was it doesn't detract from his genius.

I don't believe that you "don't know what he's supposed to have done".  It's been news for almost 3 decades.

@Fred99: are you talking Jackson or Watson here?

Not that I'm normally quick to defend someone who's views rarely intersect with mine, but I did wonder if you assumed Geektastic's comment of not knowing "what he's supposed to have done" was in relation to Jackson, whereas I clearly read it in relation to Watson.

Despite reading (and increasingly listening) widely, I only became aware of Watson's "interesting" comments and past earlier this year, and I'm betting most people wouldn't have a clue.

Edit: here's a link to the whole of that post: https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=48&topicid=248114&page_no=3#2196169
