I think it is too uniform - don't colours outside of white and blue exist?

One of my most accessed pages is rain radar... you have to scroll down to see it now. And, when you open, it is too big to fit on screen, and does not auto play.   A static rain radar is useless as it does not show direction.

On the home page for my city ( without scrolling)...

old site -- current weather, today's forecast + 5-day forecast, mini-rain radar, and current webcam image.

new site -- current weather, today's weather, and tomorrows weather.

The old site provides a comprehensive view of the most important details without a single click.

The new site requires scrolling and multiple clicks to get the same info.

The new site isn't bad, just not quite so easy to use. I'll look to see what can be customised.

Almost exactly what I said in the feedback form.
Old site had most of the information on view as you said, now everything is a scroll & few clicks away.

Humans dont like change ...

That's common corporate mantra, but it's not in the slightest bit true. Many, or possibly most, things are marketed on novelty. People pay a lot of money for the latest gadget even though they know it's utility is limited. People go to huge efforts to travel when the place they go to is no better than the place they came from. People will buy beetroot hummus when they know it's going to disgusting.

What's more people like to make changes in the same way that dogs like to scent lampposts.

The "new" radar pages are usually at least 2 updates behind the "old" one!

ie: The "old" Metservice radar page is up to 20 minutes more accurate for the current weather!

The "new" page was totally useless during today's storm in Christchurch, especially to track what was happening at the time!

20 minutes delay = useless!

As of now: (2026hrs)

"New" site last radar update = 2013hrs

"Old" site last radar update = 2021hrs

Why is there any difference at all?

It has been up to 20 minutes difference!

Thanks Met "Service" for your amazing new site. I can't tell what the weather is going to do because you took away all the graphics for different weather events and replaced it with a wall of text.

Does anyone know of a decent website that serves up NZ weather?

Here is the problem with New Zealand's Government Met service. We have Met Service and NIWA which are Government owned agencies commercially competing each other. We are one of the few countries of the world which doesn't have a free open weather platform.

Phillip Duncan has been banging on about it for years. He does have a vested interest as he is a commercial Met provider however he is right. The economic benefits to the country to free weather information are significant. Labour promised to do something but it all seems to have come a grinding halt.

The Metservice must have magical lobbying powers...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

You can still go to their old site at the moment - ironically even Google keeps showing this high up in searches!

Metservice are an SOE, their entire purpose of being is commercial,

They will have argued that the data they have is commercially sensitive to them and it is not in their financial interest to give it away for free

The lobbying powers are enshrined in the SOE Act which basically says if the government wants Metservice to do something non commercial tit has to pay metservice....

It was the same situation that Kiwirail had when it said Electric locos were too expecnse on the NIMT and they would dieselise the whole line,

When the govt said no, kiwirail said OK, your new direction will cost us $35 million, please pay here... they govt coughed up...

... for the meantime. It was due to disappear early Dec so it can’t be long until it’s gone.

Or you can use the stylish theme I added that hides that ridiculous advert banner at the top that consumes a 1/3 of your screen!

Am (not) liking they way they seem to be trying to stop people, like me, from using the old site - the 10 day forecast has dropped to a 8 day forecast, then 7, now 6...

Guess the 10 day wasn't that good anyway, but still...
