Yeah they both need a lot of work to get to the standard that original pricespy was, both promising though.

Folks, just got an email from one the people behind the new Pricespy. As you know it's an European company, based in Sweden. I actually met Jonas a few months ago, way before the Pricespy deal was announced, when they were visiting New Zealand...

Anyway, I am told they have an Android application for price shopping, and it even got an award for Best Android applicaton in Sweden. This is just a taste of what can be done:

New site looks horrible and confusing, I won't be using it.
The beauty of the old Pricespy was its simplicity - "less is more", I shouldn't need to learn how to use a website! I'll try some of the alternatives suggested in this thread.

Well, last night I went on Pricespy to look for a I gig stick of SODIMM DDR2 for a laptop. Now surely it can't get much more simple than this. But, silly me, I want Hynix memory to match the stick in the laptop.

So I get a choice of 4 brands, but none of them is Hynix. Now Hynix may not be the largest memory company in the world, but they'll be very close to it. But do you think I can find find ANY prices for Hynix memory? NO! So I go to my local computer store on the web (QMB - highly recommended BTW as they have good prices and actually hold a lot of stock) and find what I want. But I have no idea if I could have bought the same thing cheaper somewhere else.

As far as I'm concerned, Pricespy is irretrievably BROKEN. I'm am so annoyed, as I've used it for years and have to say that the old website was a model of simplicity and usability.

Can we start some kind of online petition to get the old website back?

I was a geek before the word was invented!

Ragnor: Sensible alternatives are starting to emerge now here's one I saw the other day, still a work in progress though at this stage:

Just tried this, looks promising. Hmm - a list of items starting with the lowest price - now where have I seen this before? And it takes you straight to the product page on the store website!

Goodbye Pricespy!

Edit: Also tried the Pricespy mobile website, which is more like the old Pricespy. Can't click through to the supplier webpage though unless they're Pricespy recommended.

gearbot now has all of the good retailers, so quite useable now.

Funny how no one bothered to make a competitor to the original pricespy (other than that horrible priceme site) but since the new version we now have half a dozen new sites replicating the original pricespy style.

Hi w2krules!

The easiest way to search for a product on PriceSpy is to start typing the name of the product or category you are looking for in the search box without pressing enter. If you type in "hynix" you will see a list on your lefthand side with prices from PriceSpy Raw. Underneath you can click on "show more" and then you will get to 14 pages of Hynix products.

Prices that have not yet been indexed can be found in PriceSpy Raw but there you cannot make any price comparisons.

When we retreive new prices from the stores, through a product feed or by scanning them, we need to manually sort these to make sure they end up in the right lists. This usually does not take too long, but we are behind in the memory category at the moment. This is a huge category which we have made a priority. We ask for your patience, one by one they will show up in the lists! :)

That's great and all, but you don't provide links to product pages unless they give you money. That makes your service useless. I'm sorry, but you've taken a good thing (Pricespy) and ruined it.

I'll be using Gearbot, just as soon as they remove OC Zone.

One thing the new Pricespy has is supplier ratings - check out OCZone!

I don't think it's fair to expect gearbot to remove oczone. The website should be impartial like the original pricespy website. From what I have read elsewhere, oczone sounds like a rubbish store. Maybe the will implement ratings, or perhaps have a couple of recommended stores in a different colour.
