joker97: to those understand soccer, what i didnt get was:

in the 2nd half, when clearly we needed to score to advance, why did we keep defending against a team which wasnt attacking? i thought that was the silliest thing about the entire tournament so far! perhaps they were concentrating on drawing and going home with no shame knowing that the attack is toothless anyway?

i share the same sentiment. i wish they showed some interest to score. i believed paraguay did not put much effort in the game. first half was mundane. i think the expectation to win was not there.

It's not quite as cut and dried as that.

We were set up in a defensive formation at the outset and the team was tired and in a defensive mindset.

Nelsen was (at his own admission) running at about 40% and the team just didn't want to give up a goal.

I still think that if I was going to criticise anything at all, it would be Herbert's failure to put on Chris Wood and Jeremy Brockie earlier.

Wood injected pace and urgency, but was only there for ten minutes. Just not enough to make a real impact.

You can't take anything away from these guys though...they gave everything for the country and left nothing in the tank.

Simon Elliot - for an unemployed, aging (and supposedly past-it0 player, you were a dynamo in the midfield. Let's hope someone gives you the job you deserve.

You do have a good point there, yes we didn't make it to the top 16, but we left the world cup undefeated, as underdogs and also leaving with defending champions Italy  - They gave everything, and they should be proud
