"we hope to have it fixed by midnight" could be interpreted as really meaning "go to bed - we'll talk about it in the morning".

Not having a contingency plan would be like living in the 9th Ward of New Orleans and not having flood insurance...

On that note i think i actually will go to bed, im getting bored with watching the "Signal Level: 0" on the TV lol, and theres really nothing that interests me on 1,2,3 or 4 at the mo..

SOLAR ECLIPSE INTERFERES WITH SATELLITE RESTORATION

The solar eclipse that occurred around midnight last night has interfered with and set back the restoration of SKY’s digital satellite service.

The eclipse blocked sunlight to the solar cells on the satellite requiring the cells to be recharged again after the eclipse and before the process of realigning the signal with earth could continue.

The satellite signal was lost after a routine positioning procedure to the satellite by Optus.

SKY and Optus immediately put into operation their signal recovery plans.

SKY Television’s CEO, John Fellet said “Our priority has been to get the service up and running. SKY and Optus staff have worked through the night to re-power the satellite and restore a signal to SKY. It’s a delicate process and it’s still continuing.”

SKY apologises for loss of SKY satellite services resulting from an outage on the Optus B1 Satellite that provides SKY’s signal.

Mr Fellet said that he did not expect customers to pay for a service they didn’t receive and SKY will remedy this with a credit to customer accounts.

Checked my SkyTV a few minutes ago and it was working again.
All the channels looked clear except for the living channel which has some kind of corruption.
Now it has stopped, no signal.

Well around 0840 this morning ive managed to get Sky Digital backk here in Wellington, though it has droped signal twice, ..... lets see how long it lasts :)

Craig Sutton's website is a good source of information on all things satellite. That's where the infamous chatroom mentioned in this this thread is as well (java chat app).

I found the article on the front page of the Herald quite amusing

"Aucklander Bryan Krzanich said most outages were weather related and lasted only a few minutes. I can see the [Sky] tower and the Waitakere Ranges. There's definately something whierd"

The Herald obviously need to get a journalist who understands the difference between terrestrial TV and satellite tv!

I hope they are going to fix this issue until June when the Football World Cup begins, because I will be very pissed off buying a new plasma tv and then I will not have proper tv channels!!! :)

The story has also been on the news every hour across all the Canwest radio stations - MoreFM, The Breeze and Radio Live.

Have you negotiated a cheaper sellers %? I suspect it's going to be pretty steep! :-)
