Today I raided our tiny but excellently stocked Asian grocery shop for the weekend. Let's see if I manage to photograph the food this time before the carnivores want to be fed.

... and a red Thai curry based on the recipe of a friend who had worked as a chef in a Thai restaurant.

We continued today for lunch:

Teriyaki salmon poké bowl with cucumber, sugar snap peas, avocado, spring onions, rice and lime and ginger dressing. I had made the teriyaki sauce ourself this week. 👨‍🍳

At an unexpected request, I was asked to make a Thai green curry for dinner. I didn't have the original vegetables (baby aubergines and Thai aubergines) to hand, but I still had plenty of green courgette peas. So I cooked the HOT green Thai chilli. 🤭😉😁

I'm temporarily occupied with our new electric rice cooker, which really amazes me. I always thought it was just another useless appliance sitting around in the kitchen and a pot of water would do just fine. Well, I was wrong. I'll be back soon. 🤭

I've never used a Rice Cooker, but if we ate a lot of rice (we don't, my wife isn't a huge fan of rice) then I think we'd have one.

The people that have them swear by them, and even the cooking shows that show a lot of Asian cooking use them (for example, but not the only one, Uncle Roger ;))

... by the way, why am I so keen on rice? Honestly, I hate Mrs. Tinkerisk's wholegrain pasta - but don't worry, she's now brought in wholegrain rice. 🙄

I should reconsider this marriage. 🤣

What is wholegrain rice?

Do you mean Brown rice?

I don't mind it for some things - it's a bit crunchier. No good for a curry though.

Rice cookers are great.  They pretty much remove the need to actually "cook" the rice.  Pop the rice in, rinse, add water to first digit of your finger and flick a switch.

Doesn't take up any space on the stove and perfect every time.

It's like the difference between using a toaster and using an oven to toast bread.

We use a mixture of white Jasmine, black Jasmine and sometimes quinoa.  Makes a nice purple rice with more fibre than white but without the crunch of brown rice.

Indeed, you call it brown rice. Sorry for my translation error.

BTW Mrs. Tinkerisk „overheard“ my comment and made me an excellent Crêpe Suzette for dessert! 😇
