BTW, the "retail" sticker on mine said $499 so for anyone possibly eyeing up those ones on TradeMe at $550, might pay to sit tight for a little bit and see what HN does.

Psilan: $700 is just stupid. You selling it to some old lady?

No, he is about 25.  Fairly onto it generally.  Said he was looking at buying a new EEE pc, so guess he figures its a saving off new (still haven't even opened it).  And he knew I wanted one anyway, so had to be a decent offer.  Probably gonna do it, then maybe get an iPad or something.

c71931f:Yeah agreed..i think that's the retail price lol.

People have suggested its $799, so it is close to retail price...

Was that the branch which didn't want to know about doing rainchecks originally?  If yes, I can't say I'm surprised.

Must say I'm pretty impressed with the Asus. From general talk on the Atoms and netbooks you'd think they were pretty gutless but, obviously outside of more graphics intensive stuff, it scoots along.

Runs my 1920x1080 monitor fine with websites like you wouldn't notice. All areas, devices very well performing.

Good on Harvey Norman, too, for making it right!

I tried playing runes of magic (MMORPG) on mine, it managed up to 10fps at times. I'm surprised it ran at all to be honest, its not exactly quick on the desktop which has a reasonable amount of grunt.

I restored my netbook using the build in recovery system but hold F9 while booting.
There is a 5GB hidden partition that contains a Ghost image of the netbook, it was quick as easy to use and 20mins later I had a fresh machine again. After that, I discovered that the hidden partition is now visible, but not a problem.

Battery life is still around 6.5 hours. I tried a mkv 720p movie on the netbook as if was very jumpie, dropping frames... SD definition plays perfectly.

I've go an 8GB sdhc card and am looking at trying to install win7 next. Oh I tried Ubuntu 9.10 but it's not designed for the netbooks as the GUI for file requesters is too large for the screen, making it useless, maybe there is a Linux gui that is netbook friendly, I have not found it.

I really like the weight of the thing, it's so light, I sometimes don't even think I'm carrying it.
I also like the LED backlit screen and the multi-touch pad.

I've got no dead pixels, noddy76, they should be able to fix that for you as it's not even 30days news.

Have you tried Ubuntu NR (Netbook Remix)?
