Win7 is running nice. Ordered 2gb of ram from computerlounge for it.
Playing relatively low bitrate 720p video, im managing near the native framerate of most clips (25fps) when its on 'super performance' which apparently slightly overclocks the cpu. So far FFDShow appears to be the best at handling it, might try coreAVC some time. Going to try some 1080p samples.

stuzzo: Must say I'm pretty impressed with the Asus. From general talk on the Atoms and netbooks you'd think they were pretty gutless but, obviously outside of more graphics intensive stuff, it scoots along.

Runs my 1920x1080 monitor fine with websites like you wouldn't notice. All areas, devices very well performing.

Good on Harvey Norman, too, for making it right!

I tried playing runes of magic (MMORPG) on mine, it managed up to 10fps at times. I'm surprised it ran at all to be honest, its not exactly quick on the desktop which has a reasonable amount of grunt.

Try running GMABooster, see if it increases your FPS.

If I wipeout the recovery partition, do you guys know if the recovery disc will restore it?

Trying to install XP Pro via USB stick but don't really want to touch the recovery partition.

(I read you have to delete all partitions for the USB install to work).

Let us know how you get one, I haven't got Ubuntu on my 1005 yet, but I'm considering triple booting it + Win7/XP

Tried that, didn't work for me, possibile that I need to play with some of the values more, but to be honest I CBF, i want things to work out of the box.. I'll just buy a mouse and use that, or ditch ubuntu and stick with XP until somebody gets it to the point i can apt-get install synaptic-foo and have it work.

Guess out of the box means XP/7 :), I'll give it a go in the weekend and see how it works out with some diff values. My bluetooth laser mouse at the moment is working well though

I have moved across the ditch. Now residing in Melbourne as a VOIP/Video Technical Trainer/Engineer.

I'm thinking of doing this on my HP mini, once I get enough time to play with it. Out of curiosity, I was thinking that I could then take it on holiday having ripped the kids DVDs to it, and could then use it in the car to get some peace and quiet from them during the trip. There's probably an adaptor I can buy to run it from the cigarette lighter, but if not, I assume it would be capable of showing a couple of films off one battery charge.

I had a problem where the volume function key didnt work when I installed Win7. Had to download the Win7 driver for the touch pad and Hotkey utility. All working fine now.

Downloading the latest drivers should fix that.

You can use the function keys by holding down the Fn button probably (i.e. the reverse of the usual). You may find an option in the BIOS that switches the preference. Not sure why installing Windows 7 would've made a difference.
