Thought I had better put my hat in the ring finally.  Always been keen to see how a tablet works in practise.  Also thought I could lend it to my son to programme it as a remote control for his quad-copter - he could probably see where he is flying better than on his Desire HD!!

The Acer Iconia A500's weight, size, adaptability and portability, appears to provide complete eReading, Games, Multimedia, and  Social interconnection storage tablet functionality in an attractive must-have unit. The multitude of applications that can be used with the A500, makes it an ideal WiFi and GPS friendly locating device that can position and transmit images by using the two in-built cameras.
In-all, the extensively well thought-out package of computing and internet communicatios applications, provide utilisations that would suit the busiest of computer and internet geeks.

I run a little netbook, because it was what I could afford when my sturdy laptop started regularily blue screen of deathing on me. (Photo attached). I would have loved to get a tablet as it suits the kind of geek-in-recovery work I do now (Yep it's more people than machines- but I still channel a hidden geek).

A picytre of a netbook, showing a picture of a netbook, showing...
The question for me is not so much what would I do with it but what wouldn't I try to do with it ?
Cheers
Colin

We currently have an emachines 10" netbook that the wife and I share for browsing and emailing while we are being social (with each other that is!!). A second machine is exactly what we need and i have been considering an ipad for a while.

This would be excellent for us because we have so far resisted the urge to purchase any apple hardware. we have no ipods, iphones, imacs etc in our house so it would be a shame to start now!!

I want to win the A500 for my wife so she can start buying e-books so we don't have to shift house to find more space for books.

I'd like to see her keeping her to-do list, shopping list, recipe file and so forth on something a little more capable than the wretched cellphone in the photo.

Plus, if she starts doing all her on-the-go computing tasks on the A500, I'll have a better chance of convincing her she really needs a more up-to-date cellphone, too.

My 8 year old boy could use this, it'd save me a grand buying him an iPad, which I think I'll be up for a his next reading level test. (Warning: Don't offer expensive gadgets to your kids in return for improving education skills, little suckers tend to focus on stuff like a crazy demon, which just costs you money!!!). Next time I'll just cut some holes in his pockets and give him a lollipop...

It'll replace his current setup, which is nothing, and it'll save him beating up his little brother to steal his iPod, or stealing my iPhone...

Did I mention it'll save me a grand... I went all Two and a Half Men on Friday - had a massive bender - never seen so many charlied out hookers, and then the world didn't end like it was supposed to... and now my kids can't eat... the wifes kicked me out of the house, so it'll come in real handy...

An acer Tablet would definitely be a step-up from my 3 year old netbook with Ubuntu 10.4.

I could read some mags, and ebooks, and then hand it to my wife for some well deserved relaxtion time, while I look after our 5 week old.

Plus Im dying to try an Android tablet, ipad was cool, but I think this has way more possibilities.

I'd love an A500 because i currently use a SGS, but it is a work phone, and if i leave i dont know how i'll cope without an android device.

I have an original iPad, but whenever I go to use it the wife is already on it! A second one would solve that little problem nicely...

I would certainly love to win the Acer tablet it would go nicely with my LG Optimus 1 smartphone and certainly put my Compaq presario 2100 laptop to shame.

Well I need the Acer Iconia A500.  First of all I have been living and working away from my family for the last 3 years and this should be really handy to keep in touch.  Secondly, I feel I am going to be left behind, the way new technology is progressing.  (I saw a 5 year old navigate around an iPhone, I can't do that!!!)  Thirdly, I am sick and tired of people (besides me) who pull out their devices in hot spots or MacDonalds even, just to show off!)  Please here my plea!

Thanks
Churchur!

My partner is a software engineer and the ultimate geek - however his home setup does leave something to be desired - lots of cables, cords and two screens - like who needs two screens lol - I don't get it - what i do get though is if he had one of these he could come with me and we could spend time doing stuff together because he could carry this with him - win win for me and HUGE brownie points if I was able to give him one of these :-)

I don't have any sort of tablet at present, only my ancient HP 530CMT which is a little less than portable. I would love to be able to play with a new watchimacallit thingy as I have yet to have the pleasure!
