I have found the opposite. Have two Mitsubishi oasis dehymdifiers, and both were lemons, as both 'degased' after a few years and stopped producing water. Had them regased, but that only lasted another year before they degased again and stopped producing water. They weren't even used that much, but were about $800 each. If I had known about the CGA back then, I would have got them to replace them.

Bugger. :(

Mine's only six months old so it hasn't had the chance to prove its long term reliability yet. The reason I bought it is that the cheap one I had previously was far too noisy and the Oasis seemed to be the only model I could find that promised acceptable noise levels.

Time will tell, but if I get a 'few years' out of it then I won't be too bothered.

May have just been a bad model model I had, as both were the same, and it is about 10 years old, so they may have improved them since,

HP iPAQ RX4000 Mobile Media Companion A "media player" running on Windows Mobile 5. Wi-fi (but never supported WPA2) and tethered USB access. Cost me in the high hundreds.

Hardly ever got used as cheap mp3 players arrived about the same time

A Castlewood ORB drive.

Looking for an affordable backup system in the late '90's I found this item top rated by one of the computing mags - PC World, IIRC.

It never worked reliably.

The discs, unlike every other kind of magnetic or optical media I've ever encountered, actually got more expensive over time.

Within a couple of years, the company filed for Chapter 7. In the USA, that's liquidation - "We are broke and there is absolutely no hope".

Still have an ORB disc as a drink coaster somewhere at home.

I too was a big minidisc fan - I had two different portable players.

Yeah, I sold the mini-system/player to someone in 2001 (a bigger fool then me?), kept a few discs and went to Japan, to teach English, where the mini-disc actually lived on. Ended up buying a portable recorder/player, renting CDs (yet, legally available at the video store) and copying them to mini-disc on my PS2.

On the subject of minidisc, does anybody know where you can get the slim sony batteries used by the mindisc and portable CD player?

If the battery is similar to the one in floydbloke's reply, and has a solder tag at each end... I recently bought one to play with from Surplustronics at the top end of Queen St, Auckland. They had a box full, and were real cheap - something like $2 each only. If you are in Queen St, might be worth your while having a peek to see if they are similar.

I also bought a MiniDisc Mini System for $999 which was my first uni job, 50% of the xmax/newyr busy period I worked at The Warehouse (min wage). Thought MD were the new CDs, yet MD music were not purchsable. Well it still works at least today (since 1998). Was not concerned with Mp3. The weakish speakers are crap for a thousand bucks. Shoulda got a $200 unit or a a good receiver with some speakers. Cannot record MDs now the recording head prob broken.

Bro's - bought a HD USB TV Tuner (Terrestrial) but we don't have Terrestrial at home. We have a Sky Dish but they're likely not gonna put a aerial up anyway .....

Me again - bought a used 3yr Thinkpad online (laptop). Found it wasn't as thin as my previous one or portable. Had to buy a battery, pay the shipping then it was at least the price of a new laptop in the stores non-Thinkpad.
