mattwnz: Normally when you buy on an auction site, you rely on a good level of feedback. If someone has 0 feedback, then people are taking quite a big risk unless they use something like safetrader. It is part of the problem with a new auction site. I recall reading somewhere that some new auction site was trying to get feedback from other auction sites transferred, as they beleived the owner of the account owned that information and not the auction site

How would you be able to prove to the new site that you were the same user as on the other site? Having the same username wouldn't prove anything.

They would need some form of standard. Would probably require some legislation anyway. Maybe if a trademe account was linked to a facebook user on both accounts. I am sure it could be done, but I think the question is who owns peoples feedback.

This is the thing ajobbins mentioned earlier, it's not just having feedback on sellers/buyers but also the quality of that feedback... all goes back to a meaty Customer Service and Trust and Safety departments. Trade Me has worked hard to establish a good image and relatively trustworthy marketplace. I can't imagine that being shared (directly or otherwise) with competitors. This are my opinion/thoughts only.

Trademe really do work hard on issues. I have had them call when idiot buyers have complained about sales, they have listened and been totally reasonable etc. they work hard behind the scenes on pay now, telling sellers when they should hold off on shipping things etc.

People that complain about trademe fees saying that they do "nothing" really do annoy me, since from both sides of it, I can see clearly that they do a lot when things go wrong.

Totally agree. They are very communicative and will react quickly to auctions that are reported, and overall their support is really good. I would prefer to pay more for a better service.

Well Wheedle must have some kind of security monitoring, since they deleted the listings of two pretty obvious scammers.

Yeah! I think that geekzone has to have a Wheedle discussion forum! It would be brilliant! Tongue Out

I think it was Oneway (may have been Zillion) which transferred your Trademe feedback rating over. Different user names wasn't a problem.

From memory, Oneway would give you a code which you had to put in your Trademe profile. Once done, this would confirm you were the same user and OW would copy your feedback scroe over.

Thats not a bad idea. I presume they have to do it manually somehow.
