When I signed up, the mrs asked "why don't we just torrent?". I said I'd rather support the system in some way, and get it in our region eventually. She was cool with that.
Same reason I use google play music all-access.
My wife had related concerns.

Me: Not illegal, no. But it is against the NetFlix Terms of Service. Somehow I don't think they mind that much though, as we are paying customers.
ACK about the region stuff. However if it does ever get to NZ, I seriously doubt it will be as awesome as the US or UK variants. The NZ iTunes store is living proof of that. We still can't hire/purchase TV shows. Hopefully any eventual Netflix AU will be better for you.
Don't count on it. iTunes AU TV section is pretty limited to what has been shown there no modern US stuff so I suspect Netflix AU would be like Quickflix where NZ is restricted to what Sky and all will allow..
