Years ago I used a cheap Phillips rotary, was a bit plucky but I think it's because the head got old.

A few years ago I bought a then-top-of-the-line Panasonic foil shaver, (13,000rpm, double foil with bar in the middle for long whiskers) and to be honest, I've found that pretty plucky too, while also taking forever having to go over and over the same spot, and literally most of the whiskers end up on me or scattered around the sink etc.

Of course, the pluckiness could also be due to me leaving it too long between shaves :)

Thinking about going back to rotary, apparently they are better for more random-direction whiskerage as long as you're not too sensitive and at least they seem to catch more hair, for me.

Anyone got any medium-priced rotary they are happy with on a dry shave?

I have been using this Series 9000 since then - every day, which is a lot more than my three times a week shaving with blades. Yes, sticking with this.

I'd never go back to blades (which I have not used since I was about 18 anyway, and I am now 47) but having strayed to the Dark Side with Phillips once from Braun, I won't do it again as IMO Braun are better shavers.

I can't use blades anyway as I take warfarin every day and will do for the rest of my life so things that may slice you open are generally to be avoided!

That is true, the triple head one will be far superior, and I have one of them with the triple heads. But to be honest, I don't find that the rotary ones compare to the braun syncro foil one I have, which is over 10 years old. It's RRP was anout $650, but it was on special at the time for $250. The philips isn't good for around the neck, while the braun is good everywhere, and for about $60 you can get a new head and foil for it which makes it like new. Also has a LCD screen and countdown timer of minutes remaining, which the philips don't have. ALthough they seem to have removed LCDs on newer models, which maybe to reduce cost/ increase margins.

Always order the foil/cutter unit from outside NZ. In the UK the Braun ones are the equivalent of 2 for the price of 1 on Amazon.co.uk IME.

I've got to hunt down another supplier of fluid for the shaver cleaning unit now though as Moore Wilson have stopped stocking it and that was the only place I had found to date in the Wairarapa where I could get it. Bizarrely they still sell the shavers...!

Had this unlocked because I am needing a little bit of advice.

I bought a Braun Cooltec CT4s Foil shaver and have found it to be hopeless, it doesn't get anything under the chin meaning I have to use a regular razor to tidy up afterwards - not quite what I wanted. Thought it might have been because I had to get used to the shaver but doesn't appear to be the case (bought from Shaver Shop in Queensgate).

They've been very awesome and have given me a credit of $179 to spend but am looking at something within the (up-to) $250 pricerange but my skin is also very sensitive so would rather shave in the shower, really liked the cool feeling of the Cooltec shaver (really feels nice on the skin) so a real shame it doesn't seem to work for me.

Shaver shop recommend one of the Panasonic shavers with the pivoting head however I am not even sure Foil is right for me, any ideas?

Not normally with me, normally touch up in front of the mirror.

Never found it a problem - always shaved under the shower, without a mirror - with blades and with the shaver.

Shower first, nice and hot. Have your brush and razor soaking in nice hot water. Lather up PLENTY when you're ready to shave. When you're done, nice ice cold water on your face.

I used to use Gillette and their cartridges. Had WOEFUL shaving rash, then went to electric, even worse. Moved along to the old safety blade and have not ONCE had a problem. Beautiful shave, irritation free.

Best yet? 100 blades lasts me 5 years. Or 10 blades for $10 from the supermarket lasts bloody ages. Rather than cartridge blades that get 2-3 shaves out of and cost a small fortune.

Stop wasting your time and money, shave like a man, feel like a King.
