AU$200 for a NZ$40 router leaves quite a bit of room to roll your own on the router instead. I am sure that there will be pre-done packages for openwrt to run on the thing to do weather station duty.

It was a nice idea but gonna have to park it, Perhaps i'm ruined by the levels of integration of IT devices but 3 devices(!) just to pipe sensor data, one of which is a hacked up router? Even marine has it's s%$ together better than this (Airmar DST800 outputs nmea 0183/2k directly from sensor, clipper marine do nmea direct sensors etc)

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

There is nothing wrong with the openwrt platform operaing things like this. Its ideal for it, low power, runs on 5V so a battery backup is as simple as buying a USB power bank that doesn't shut off with low load, and its Linux so reliable, unlike some of the proprietary devices. Built in wifi too so no need to mess around cabling to the weather station location and the resulting hazard of surges that a cable to a tall pole outside brings to the party.

I dont have a weather station running here because the last one I bought and havent installed is unreliable cheap crap, and the one before it blew apart at 130km/h wind gusts.

I've had my weather station in Hamilton (weather.zx.net.nz) showing up on YourWeather since far too late at night on the day the feature first appeared but for some reason pressure has never come through.

Does YourWeather by any chance only pull relative pressure from WOW? If so I guess I'll need to finally get around to calculating that in my software and submit it instead of the absolute value.

If you are using Cumulus, the values out of the station output don't appear to match the fields on the site.

I had the normal sensors selected during my profile edit online including Rel Hum. But then needed to later change the toggle on the met profile to absolute for it to display.

Go figure.

MetService pulls mean sea level pressure from WOW. See the help page http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk/support/dataformats#pressure and in particular the note:

"Pressure & MSLP:

Some weather stations record Mean Sea Level Pressure, and some record Station Pressure (also referred to as Air Pressure). The Site Definition in WOW will be used to determine which pressure measurement to use. If your site specifies a unit for Air Pressure, and MSLP is marked as 'Not Captured', then baromin will be treated as an Air Pressure reading. Otherwise it will be treated as an MSLP reading. To edit your site definition and ensure the correct pressure is selected, visit the edit pages of your site and the options for pressure will be near the bottom. Ensure one is set to 'hectopascals (hPa)' and the other is set to 'not captured'. WOW will then automatically work out the other measurement and store it for you."

The software that I'm running is entirely custom so anything that goes wrong is automatically my fault

Looking at my station on the WOW site now I'm guessing (MetServices docs don't mention it) that YourWeather only pulls the mean sea-level pressure. My software doesn't currently calculate that so I'm just submitting the absolute (station) pressure instead.

The 'Your Weather' station names have disappeared (for a few days now).

Any idea when we might see them again?

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?
