nate:
raytaylor: Seems there is a fault with the website not accepting my mastercard

And I quote..

Swipe's fraud detection engine has found the following transactions to be of a suspicious nature, please hold off sending the products for this order until you have verified the buyer details.

So who have you been annoying lately? ;)

Cant say I have been annoying anyone. If there is money in the account it goes through, if not then it doesnt. Its a debit master card so cant understand why they would say that?
Unless its because i buy alot of big ticket items from places like amazon.com at random times.

I am starting to think the balance didnt drop - its showing the takeaways i bought earlier tonight, but i still havent recieved the email reciept

I transferred some money to another account, and used that mastercard (all my accounts have debit mastercards)
It accepted it that time in firefox and my bank statement for that account now has a line saying

Total of After Hours Transactions Not Yet Posted

with a $20 drop so thats showing it worked.

I think the website is a bit fuddy duddy if it has the SSL failure, accepts the card, but doesnt process it, and still says it was accepted. Something definitly odd there - maybe a failure code from the processor doesnt have a message output, but defaults to show the user the success message or something.

They probably received an authorisation code to apply to the transaction later, so the credit card won't show the transaction, just a balance change. If they don't use the authorisation code the balance goes back to your account.

If they thought it was a strange transaction they may check the transaction later and approve it (from the sound of the email) then the line will show up on the credit card.

No different than holding balances when you go to a petrol station and pay on the pump.

No. That could be a problem.
I would fail the jaffa driving test at the border so they might not let me in

SSL cert issue is probably between the browser and the server, has no bearing to the content being served (aka the payment processing engine).

Don't conflate two issues with only peripheral relationship.

I OTOH would probably refuse to continue to process a payment on a payment gateway rendering an SSL cert issue... just saying...

(What was the Cert error?)

Cant remember.
I put it down to an outdated IE8 error - I keep IE outdated to work with some software i use.
Firefox had no SSL error so I trusted it.

Fair enough. I would reserve your use of legacy IE to only your specific software requirements, then - I wouldn't trust it anywhere near the public interwebs.

As above. If you have an old IE just for compatibility sake you SHOULD NOT use it for anything else. It is a liability to you, your business and everyone around.

If you must use an old version then have it on a virtual machine, so if anything happens and malware is installed the PC itself is not compromised.

And mainly don't use it for transactions that require security.

Looks like it charged the original card i was having problems with, in addition to the card that worked first time.
Havent recieved an emailed reciept for either yet :-(

Is this an IRL we're seeking sponsors and prizes for? Should I be muttering on Twitter about it (as usual)? ;)

<- don't ask me where I am - I haven't a clue: its a tech thing ;)
Housewife computerer: not particularly great at either.
And don't take me too seriously.

Of course, haven't had anyone offer, but more than happy to do sponsorship and prizes.
