Common sense is not as common as you think.
MileHighKiwi: My theory is the person behind this does not intend to or hope to harm babies. They are hoping to cause panic and disrupt the supply chain. If China get worried and cancel their baby powder imports it's a huge hit to the economy. Dairy is something like 7% of GDP and 25% of our export dollars.
John Key's 'terrorist' line does seem sensationalist, but eco-terrorism is apt IMO.
Eco-terrorism is defined by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as "the use or threatened use of violence of a criminal nature against people or property by an environmentally oriented, subnational group for environmental-political reasons, or aimed at an audience beyond the target, often of a symbolic nature."

freitasm: There, this is a good point and yes this would be of national significance.

I have no idea why I'm dipping my toe into this thread (but I have my tinfoil hat on). The two groups that contain individuals vehemently opposed to the use of 1080 and who refuse to acknowledge the science around it are Greens and Deerstalkers. The only other motive I can see is someone with a grudge against Fontera.

Surely, you can see a contradiction here.
First, you mention 'Science'/evidential approach to using 1080.
Then, without any evidence at all, you attempt to implicate the Green party and Deerstalkers (Association?).
Are you seriously thinking the Green Party is involved in this?
I think the chances of that are almost zero and no higher than any other mainstream political party being involved.
