Handle9: The Newsroom and Studio 60. Both so pretentious, up themselves and totally Sorkin at his worst but can't stop watching. Until they got cancelled.

I'm impressed you made it through all episodes of The Newsroom. I'd heard great things about it from a cousin (it was mentioned in the same breath as my favourite series of all time - The Wire), so we tried one episode - and seriously we didn't even make it through that! Totally agree with your verdict of it, but given it's too po-faced and 'intelligent' to be trash TV we didn't even get a guilty pleasure out of watching it.

I've watched everything Sorkin has done, from Sportsnight to the Newsroom. Somewhere along the way he just go so totally up himself that he started just writing absolute nonsense. With great rhythmical dialogue. He really is quite bizarre but I just can't help myself. It really is a contrast with some of the incredibly charming stuff he wrote in Sportsnight and the West Wing.

Disagree vehemently. Not sure what you think he would be "up himself" about? Most of his shows get cancelled after just a few years, to my absolute disgust.

DravidDavid: I don't subscribe to rubbish YouTube channels or watch a TV series that isn't good.  But my brother (my 21 year old brother) watches "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic".

Quite strange to me.  Apparently a lot of adults like that show for some reason.

Is he stoned when he does it, I hear it's all the rage. Personally I couldn't imagine making something better with drugs!

Apparently, that's the best way to watch The Magic Roundabout...

If you enjoyed the Newsroom then that is great - no one else can tell you what to enjoy. If it had spent more time telling stories and less time lecturing everyone about how Aaron Sorkins world view is right and everyone else is stupid I would have enjoyed it more.

This article sums it up fairly well.

/me shrugs, probably helps I agree (largely) with his world view, and I like how his characters are. I don't tend to get worried about the stuff that article is complaining about, because it's fiction.

All his characters going back as far as I can remember use the same rythmic conversation tone, and I personally really like it.

Beats the hell out of reality TV.

My Kitchen Rules Australia : Even knowing the whole thing is scripted and contrived, I still watch it. Even when I know who wins, I still watch it.Even though I couldn't boil an egg to save myself, I still watch it. That Manu is quite nice.

The Block is like this for me.
I really liked the Australian shows where it was originally very much about doing up a block of flats/renovating etc
Nowadays they get builders in to do the bulk of it and it's become an interior decorating show with all these side challenges that pull people away from the actual renovating.

andrew027: The Walking Dead. Very little seems to happen in each episode these days, and somehow the characters seem to get more one dimensional as it goes on. But... can't. stop. watching.

Same here. It's so tedious but I just can't stop. We need an intervention.

Totally agree about his dialogue. The guy can really write dialogue and I have watched every episode of every show he's ever written.

There's stuff I love which most people don't. It doesn't bother me. If you love everything Sorkin writes then just enjoy it, it's only TV.

I kind of liked last weeks FTA episode about the ex prison psychiatrist. It was slow as but I liked the self contained story format. I have not watched regularly ever, just a random for me.

You lucked in. That was probably the best episode so far this season.
