It's odd. I have some albums (list from memory not exhaustive) which I can almost never hear too many times and some I like but probably play once a year and even some I ostensibly like enough to own but play about every 5 years!

What this thread tells me - again - is that different people have different tastes. When I am asked what kind of music I like, I always say good music. I like intelligent pop, blues, jazz, rock, country, classical and, yes, opera, but not all of it by any means. Partly, taste is a matter of musical education. I have learned to enjoy things as I have grown older that I couldn't stand when I was younger. I do like Dire Straights, as well as Queen and Led Zeppelin and many other groups and artists, though I'm not up to date on current trends and the examples I have heard here haven't done a lot for me. If you think you don't like any opera, though, try some of Mozart's stuff. I also have the procession from Aida on my car flash drive next to Destiny's Child. I like Destiny's Child. And I think the procession from Aida is one of the most exciting pieces of music I have ever heard. My all-time favourite? Gimme Shelter by the Rolling Stones. That is how old I am.

Oh, and I completely agree with your assessment of Pavarotti. He was a rock star.

The Stones are hard to beat when at their best, that is for sure.

Of course, people like different things - and on a fundamental level I do not think education will persuade someone to love something they cannot stand on an organic level!

It's like food: some things do not register in my mind as food and I simply cannot eat them without being sick, such as raw fruit. I know it's good for me but that does nothing to alter the fact that it all tastes revolting, smells revolting and causes me to hurl it up, assuming I even manage to swallow it! I do not think education would improve something that has been the case for almost 50 years.

What I felt was interesting, was after the movie, that album held completely different meaning to me and now when I listen to these tracks, the emotions brought up are related to the ones from the movie.

It's good. I guess it depends what is going on in your own life at the time, but I found this one emotional, and it stuck with me for days afterwards.

OK. I know I am a bit unusual.

However, I wondered if this one was down to me or whether others share.

I have plenty of music in my Apple Music collection - enough to play it for days and days without repeating.

Yet I just spent 10 minutes trawling through it all completely unable to find a single album I wanted to listen to and ended up putting on a streaming radio station.

I find the music has to fit the way I am feeling at that moment or else it is intolerable and I MUST turn it off or change it if I am to be able to concentrate on anything else. Some music (e.g. rap) has that effect to such an extent that I will leap up and cross the room to turn it off or leave shops etc that are playing it because I simply cannot bear to listen to it.

Is anyone else that sensitive to it or am I just very eccentric that way?

When nothing comes to mind, I usually find some Salmonella Dub tends to find it's way to the top of the playlist ...sorta sets the "tone" for what I start to listen to next.

After that, perhaps some "Psychedelic" genre - Alien Project, 1200 Micrograms.

Some latin - Ricky Martin ...

Eminem aint too bad ..

Aqua ?

Disturbed ...

Then after that, meh who knows - I have a music player that Auto-Dj's the recently listened to :-)

Seriously, though, her live version of Mack the Knife where she does not know the complete song so ad libs demonstrates a skill level modern 'musicians' can only dream of in many cases!

Ella's adlibbed version of Mack the Knife is awesome. I love jazz.

When in doubt - Leonard Cohen.

His later albums, particularly the live material is quite mellow. However, I concede that you have to probably be in the right mood for Death of a Ladies Man, or the Songs of Love and Hate.
