@xpd: 1c lollies....  $1 got you a massive bag. Today you're lucky to get 2 lollies....

I remember when lollies were sold separately in open boxes on the dairy counter, and wine gums were four for a cent. One summer my brother and I found a dollar note on the beach and went to the closest dairy and bought $1.00 worth - and stood there watching the poor (more than slightly annoyed) shop keeper count out 400 wine gums.

@FineWine: You used to be able to get an icecream popsicle with real strawberry fruit mash coating, absolutely yum. Can not remember name or who made them.

Sounds like the Splice.

Heh, I remember going to the dairy on the main street of Greymouth in either 1987 or 1988 and asking for "coins", the poor lass had no idea what I was talking about. When I referred to them as "1c lollies" she knew exactly what I meant. So, I bought $2 worth (with an old purple $2 note!) and she had to sit there and count them out.

You can still buy them today - though not quite for that bargain price - at The Old Lolly Shop in Takapuna:

I bet she dished them out using her unwashed bare hands as well.

I'm yet to meet anyone who remembers little cube lollies called Decks.

Anyone?   Think they were chewy and wrapped in white paper with small hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs on them. Think I was in primary school so 80's ish.

I do! Like you, though, very few people I've met have heard of them.  My sister and I were reminiscing about this a few years back, and we haven't seen them (or anything even approaching it) since the 80s...

My wife and I (we grew up in different parts of the country) both remember Devos chips from the late 80s/early 90s.  I think they had two flavours, and one was spicy.  Used to buy a packet with pocket money after church on a Sunday...

I remember the Decks lollies (didn't remember what they were called, but the individual wrappers did have card suits on them).

Can you still get Krispa chips?

Another thing I remember is going to a movie (in a school hall) and being able to get a bottle of Fizzy and a packet of chips for a dollar (It was invariably Pineapple 'Sport' fizzy, in a 600ml bottle and Krispa Corn Chips - ahhh sugar and salt).

Goodness - there's an large amount of nostalgic love being shown here for some incredibly unhealthy dietary items.

Decks - yum. I worked in a Dairy afterschool in the 80's. So many things that are long gone. Smiths crisps!

One of my son's friends turned up to Armageddon last weekend with a packet of Krispa chips - they were the vege chips weren't they? So yep - they are still around. He had come up from Dunedin for Armageddon so it maybe that they're not available everywhere.

Hang on - if he bought $2 worth, that would be 200 lollies - that's way more than gross. Back in the day, wouldn't it be gross if he had bought 144?

(Who else is ancient enough to also remember that?)

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Brown paper packages tied up with strings. These are a few of my favourite things. smile

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
