I'd be catching them one by one with a caged trap (council should help albeit by joining a waiting list), getting them neutered and tagged/marked with even just a flea collar to identify the ones that that are done.

elbrownos:

Interesting how the more anti-cat someone is, the more they supposedly know about the hunting habits of cats.

Interesting how the more cat-person someone is, the blinder they are to the hunting habits of cats.

Fixed that for you.

I'm not anti-cat at all... I used to have 3 burmese indoor cats. Only reason we probably don't have an indoor cat now is the mrs is allergic.

I also saved a bunch of cats born in an abandoned campervan (probably could've got me in trouble since it was on private  property) in Paraparaumu and took them to the RSPCA, then a mate adopted one.

I'm anti-feral cat and anti-wild cat and anti-feeding those varieties and prolonging their existence.

And anyone rural should be able to tell you the hunting habits of cats, because we see it all the time.

EDIT: My dogs kill lizards, so now we have a lizard and snake proof dog run, so they can be kept apart when we're not home. When we're home the dogs are out with us and they don't touch anything.

It's what's known as "responsible ownership".

I have heard that switching cats and dgos from generic dried biscuits to a raw food diet stop fleas. The reason being most processed foods have high sugar content which the fleas love. A natural balanced diet of raw food doesn't have sugar.

We switched our dogs and cat to raw food about a year ago, we haven't had any issues with fleas and haven't had to treat them for fleas since changing.

My understanding is that Fleas (and in this case cat fleas ctenocephalides felis) are attracted to a specific odour of the host (which is why different flea species often dont bite other hosts). This is called a VOC profile which stands for volitile organic compound.

In short, it is basically the odour given off by chemicals on the skin.

I am assuming when one says sugar, one is referring to refined cane/beet sugar like what one puts in a cup of tea. As from science point of view, all living things contain sugars (glucose, fructose, lactose, cellulose etc) to some degree - it is a basic building block of life.

Personally, I doubt flea attractance would be related directly to refined sugar as normal cat food typically doesnt have that as an ingredient.
