The pole camera CANNOT read the numberplate of a northbound car using the extreme right hand lane.

ilovemusic: so is this new fangled digital camera also smart enough to apply the different speed limits for cars and trucks ?

Don't think it need to. The maximum limit I've seen there in recent years is 80.

You seem very definite. Have you got something real to back this assertion up?

Wow, so this new camera uses laser etc etc.

Of more concern would be the question, how long before we see average speed camera areas on NZ roads?

Yep. My own two eyes, an understanding of "line of sight" and knowing that cameras cannot see through solid metal objects.

Go stand on the footpath on the uphill section of the Gorge, downhill of the cameras, and see for yourself Smile

A few pages back someone else was saying they'd looked and worked out that there would be line of sight... I think we need someone to volunteer to drive up the Gorge in the right hand lane with a video camera taped next to their registration plate!

It wouldn't be an insurmountable problem. Cameras in the US States that only have rear plates often have slave cameras to get the driver's face as well.

A little bike ride with a convenient stop could be in order methinks :-)

Cars have plates of course. Some US States only require a rear plate but speed cameras might have to show the driver's face as well so the ticket can be assigned to a person.
