I especially like how he sings the line "rrrrrrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrr, rrrrrrr r rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr."

I like scoobety doobetyy bee bop by Ella Fitzgerald...!

Seriously, though, her live version of Mack the Knife where she does not know the complete song so ad libs demonstrates a skill level modern 'musicians' can only dream of in many cases!

Ella's adlibbed version of Mack the Knife is awesome. I love jazz.

Diana Krall is great to listen to also. Her husband isn't too shabby either.

And look at. Can't say that about her husband though...! ;-)

TBH Elvis Costello's voice has always rubbed my ears up the wrong way.

I've got Sade in the background at the moment and she is very good indeed.

When in doubt - Leonard Cohen.

His later albums, particularly the live material is quite mellow. However, I concede that you have to probably be in the right mood for Death of a Ladies Man, or the Songs of Love and Hate.

Particular tracks that are my "go to" faves, in no particular order:

  • Chelsea Hotel #2
  • Famous Blue Raincoat
  • Suzanne
  • Take this Waltz
  • Avalanche
  • Sisters of Mercy
  • Who by Fire
  • The Partisan
  • The Captain

Suddenly, I feel the urge to put some music on......

Hmm. Leonard is not for me. Music to slit your wrists to, as a good friend of mine calls it!

I can do Dylan - which my wife hates - in small doses and mostly the older stuff. Ditto Grateful Dead, The Band, The Allman Brothers, Big Brother And The Holding Company (prescient name, no?), Creedence Clearwater Revival and even The Carpenters on occasion.

Sade is very nice.

Have you listened to any Brazillian music? Their jazz is very good.
