Get a Mazda3 MPS - you'll have fun.
You mean an SP25? If so I would suggest a manual if you want a good drivers car. An auto takes too much of the driving out of it.
Pretty sure he does not mean SP25
They haven't sold the MPS in NZ new, for years.
They are not exactly fuel efficient. I know from ownership.

Consider buying a ute. As they have far less depreciation compared to a normal car. As you don't have lots of second hand ones coming into the country as jap used imports. Even if they have done 200,000+K they still sell for big money.
I'm not interested in a ute, or a manual for that matter. I'm after a sedan or 5 door hatch, no SUV's. These are my preferences, I used to enjoy driving a manual as much as the next person when it was for fun. At the end of a 500km day driving in the rain, I want something quiet, comfortable and easy to drive.
Ute's don't have any appeal, I drove a Hilux for awhile and it was too firm, I guess it's balanced against being suspended for a load in the tray.
So I've got to decide on something preferably under $45k, not second hand (I would consider something second hand for $20k tops). It's becoming more difficult to decide than I thought! I like the idea of an Octavia RS, but for the maths to stack up I'd have to put my own money in, as it's $50k.
1eStar: Look hard at the Mazda 3 range. Then take it for a drive.
And then, if it has a ride like the mazda 6, take it back because after 500kms in one day, you'll hate yourself.
joker97: Harsh ride or road noise?
Both :D (again) lol
Never trust anyone that has only spent a maximum of a week in a car. Normally on nice roads.
I know you have said no SUV's but I would recommend taking the likes of a Hyundai Tuscon for a test drive and see if you change your mind.
My GF has a Santa Fe as a work car and it is so comfortable, quiet, economical and handles very well, even though she has to do high speed driving in it regularly.
Either that or the Mondeo's are a very good car now.
mudguard: Don't get me wrong, SUV's drive and handle well. It's more the ability to hide my luggage and the lower nature of a sedan. The new corolla hybrid, cant get more boring or reliable then a corolla
My current dilemma is buying something mundane for $40ish and have cash in my pocket after two years or so. Or stretching to $50k and having something I'd really like to own after three years, but it may cost me personally $10k or so after 3 years.
joker97: Something mundane for $40,000?!!!
