Had a pretty mean BBQ anchored off darwin a few month ago
Few brews then into town :)
The best BBQ's I ever had were New Years eve, Lake Taupo with my family, neighbours and other friends. Trout, sausages, chops and salads. A few cold beers then heading off for a massed walk to visit other party's that were happening. Never any trouble and just good vibes.
Ive abstained as I won a prize here before. But my youngest would enjoy this.
I had an Xmas BBQ coming up, ouch. BBQ not looked after. Soaked in vinegar, baking soda, bought goop that worked quite well. Finally almost presentable and OSH safe. Marinated boring supermarket patties in sweet chilli sauce. Thought the young ones would enjoy that. Over did it. My oldest friend was a burger maker when we were young teens, got advice. Made burgers for the wee ones. Well 6 to 9 years. They loved them, even though some surgically removed some greens. Glad I overdid the supply as they came back for more.
Good luck to all here
Got to be our annual (just before) Christmas BBQ with 8 of our closest friends before we all disperse for the holidays and get too busy. Despite the most rigorous planning and instructions there is always enough food to feed a small army, 6 burner BBQ on a 4 course rotation and chefs of shifts, and making our very best effort to eat it all. When that inevitably fails, the host trying to make sure the guests take as much of it away with them as possible to alleviate the strain on the family fridge.
Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
My best BBQ was when the boss gave me a heap of cash to buy meat for everyone so I got the best of everything and the crew came to our place for an end-of-year BBQ.
Drove 24hrs non-stop from Atlanta, GA to Oshkosh in Wisconsin as I found out the airshow was on the next day. Was delivering a vehicle to Chicago at the time but we overshot to make it to the airshow for noon on the 1st day. Starving and tired, we had nothing to eat and very little money so we took the hub cap off the brand new Chevy van we were delivering (now Monday), lit a fire under it and cooked four sausages on the hub cap! Classic kiwi bar-b-q in the States! Bit of Coka Cola on the hub cap the next day, good as new. Don't know if ingesting the chrome did us any good though!

I can't name one barbeque that is the best because, lets face it, all barbeques are the best (fire grilled meat.. enough said).
Some of my most memorable barbeques were had in the middle of winter.. me and a mate of mine who I met when I moved up to Palmy used to choose the oddest times of the year to barbeque.. usually the middle of winter, about 2degreese or colder, windy, raining, snow at one point.. but man they were fun.. charcoal cooking that meat to a perfect medium rare, a few beverages to warm the spirits (because, lets face it, you need that in the middle of winter lol), and always a good time had.
I will leave you all with this picture of a steak sandwich I made at one barbeque.. not related to the story, but definitely a memorable feed

My favourite bbq happened when I worked next to the Kelburn Village Pub. We occupied the top and bottom flow of the building in the picture .
. We started to BBQ and the fat dripped below in the BBQ where there was no sand. The fat then caught fire, and generated significant amount of smoke.
People started calling the Fire Brigade and three trucks showed up. No actual fires were involved. It was a great day.
Most memorable BBQ would have to be in Kaikoura after the Kaikoura quake in 2016. I was sent in the week after the quake for work when the town was still cut off. Half of my luggage was vegetables and fruit at the request of a family member as there were none in the town at the time. In exchange for a bag full of broccoli, bananas, cucumber, potatoes, lettuce, carrots, apples and tomatoes I was shouted a BBQ with meat out of the quickly defrosting freezer. I think I got the better end of the deal :-)
