xpd: I really do wonder why I bother trying to sell anything...... might just start burning crap.

Selling a number of PS3 games at the moment. Theyre listed in correct section etc, yet I get people asking "Is this for Xbox/PS4/PC/CD32/C64" - look at the ^%&*^$(&^*)%^%* section its listed in you muppets.

Argh. :)

Would you be better off taking them somewhere like cash convertors?

$3 a game when a friend did that. Not worth the drive/time unless you have many to take in.

Nah, they check the age of the game and work off that - so even tho I could have a game that is collectible and worth $10k, they'd only offer me $10 because its 15 years old ;)

Did that once many years ago, and never again.

This and other reasons is why I long gave up on trademe and any form of second hand market place in NZ. Everyone is either trying to rip you off and sell broken junk or imbeciles who can't read buy your items then rage at you.

That's rather harsh.

I have happily sold many things without people insisting on post for large things.

I did have one ask, he offered to arrange it, he did arrange, it pre-paid, and firm turned up when he said they would and off they went, I didn't have to pack or anything.

(It was a bike)

And while some things are not so great, there's an awful lot of excellent stuff there too.

Bought many.

A recent purchase was a printer cable. Brand new .75c. Works fine, looks no different either.

One of those dealers where you could buy multiple.

I have quote a bit of furniture form there too. My solid oak dining suite with the inner sprung chairs.

So many people have asked me if I want to sell it to them.

One thing on TM that confuses me..... item comes up for sale - Start price is $20 - Buy Now $25.

Someone bids $25 straight away.

Bids. Not Buy Now.

Why ? Shill bidding ? Dosent know what Buy Now is ? WHY DAMNIT ?? (Yes I missed an item due to this - could still bid above the $25 but then am I falling for their tricks...)

I don't use FB and I don't want to start, which leaves TM as the only option that's likely to work. They have a somewhat captive audience and they charge accordingly. I grumble about it but I still use them.

I recently sold some Lawnmower batteries and a charger with "buyer must collect" both in the options and in the text. Buyer clicked buy now, paid immediately, contacted me promptly,. ... and said he'd send me a courier ticket. Yeah it's annoying. Especially when they are technically hazardous goods and are supposed to be declared as such. Anyway I found an old box and some foam and sent them, it's irritating but I got my sale. If there'd been an issue to my mind it would have been all on the buyer.

I think the constant use of questions and answers as a way to immediately make low ball offers is my biggest annoyance. If I price it too high for you, don't bid on it. It's that simple. And for the above, if you plan to organise the courier yourself on an auction where the seller has specified buyer must collect then ask before clicking buy now. it's the right thing to do.

With no offer system like ebay the real auction site has had for ages, there is no other way to offer what you think something is worth.

Friend has a way to discourage the own courier lot of people, he listed another shipping option that was pack for collection by own courier that was minimally cheaper than their own courier options. Caused a few of the never run a business so have no idea whiners to complain tho.

Have scored some great deals of FB over the last year - incl:

1. Wharfedale 5.1 Setup Incl Yamaha Amp - $3kish new?....$350 - older dude who was downsizing and as he lived in Snells Beach there were not so many buyers - but he brought them to Akl for me - so Win Win :)

2. Image Speakers - $1k new - $100 - bloke didn't know what they were - oh well....

3. Oculus Go - $300 new - $120 - from a lad who had got bored with it.

4. Rotel Power Amp (late 80s vintage) - Est $1,500 new (?) - $200 - Lovely amp - dude was selling his old gear...

4. Samsung 43 inch 4k TV (1 year old) - $800ish new - $450 - had downgraded and wanted to release cash.

None looked dodgy - just people wanting to get rid of stuff and they were all good to deal with.

So good deals CAN be found - especially for stuff that perhaps is not so popular.

An In my opinion there's no need for a way to do that. Just don't Bid. That's about as clear as you can be that it's over priced.

For Example, I list a PC for $750 having decided that's about what it's worth. Someone else in their wisdom thinks it's only worth $300 and offers me that as a question.

I'm not going to answer that question, it's just a waste of time. Maybe my price is too high, maybe your offer is too low, that's what the bidding system is for.

Two things.

1. I generally don't care what you think it's worth, bid or don't bid. If it doesn't sell I'll know nobody wants to pay that much.

2. Very few of these offers are genuine judgments of real value, most are just fishing for a bargain and know the item is worth more. They possibly are hoping that someone needs the sale enough to just take cash if it doesn't sell, or it's just trolling with no intent to buy.

From 25 February, we’ll be making a change to our message board, and the following topics and threads will be closed:

• Opinion & politics
• Recipes

The message board was originally introduced as a way for members to help each other use the site. Over the years things have moved away from that, and we want to bring it back.

Going forward, the message board will be a place for general trading advice, category suggestions, or anything that helps inform others about something Trade Me related. Chat outside of this will be removed, along with our existing dos and don'ts.

Seems rather arbitrary the ones that will remain.

The message boards were a way to keep the site 'sticky' for many IMO. They potentially could turn a lot of people away from the platform as a result IMO, and onto platforms like facebook for that sort of social online interaction. I remember when Zillion was going, which was probably the closest trademe has had to a competitor, that also had an active message boards.
