Auckland was the capital once. Wellington is more central geographically, not that that is as important these days.  I think the country is too Auckland centric now without being even more so by also having the seat of power there too.

Weird how everyone else is happy for Aucklanders to disproportionately fund regional backwaters for infrastructure their own population isn't big enough to sustain, yet when Auckland shoulders the bulk of inwards migration and internal migration, everyone's wallets are shut.

I understand they're looking at the molten salt reactors. These have been around for a very long time but weren't developed because nuclear energy research and development focused on technology that would power submarines and also the focus on nuclear weapons.

Auckland isn't a good choice when there are pandemics, as more often than not, that is where lockdowns will occur, due to having the higher population, and most air traffic and passengers come through Auckland. Nothing wrong with Welling, and the building are on base isolation for earthquakes. Much money has already been spent in recent times on the buildings down there for them.
