I've been try to get set up over the past week. Every time I try I get,

Sorry, please try again later

We are unable to progress with your registration at the moment. Don't worry Club+ launches on 15 June, so you can join at any time before then. Please try again later."

There has to be something major wrong in the backend. I wonder how long it is before there's headlines in the Herald, RNZ etc.

The media are way too busy trying to get their heads around the TVNZ+ app fiasco.

Ahhh I see the problem. They've both used a + in the name. 😉

Finding the same myself yesterday, hence specifically going to the local NW to talk to the on-site people and finding there's no one there, even though I checked the times online before going.

Trying again, as mentioned by bigreddog, and I get -

Ever heard of dark mode New World ?

I copy the code to NW site and it says add a new password, so many characters, include special characters, whatever. I use a password generator and paste to NW, what do I get ? 'password contains invalid symbols'

Set up new card May 20th, requested plastic card, then sent Customer Support query about having two cards.

No replies but two cards turned up today, so not sure if they responded in respect to my email or simply noted that two of the old NW Cards had been originally provided.

In any case, we await June 15th 😬

Interestingly, unlike the NW card, the new one does not require an 'authorised signature'.

That has always made me chuckle.

Authorised by who, them or me? They never had a specimen of my signature, so any scribble drawn on that part of the card would be deemed authorised.

I assume they must have copied a credit/debit card template when they designed those cards.

They’ve also dropped the magstripe. Good example of how times have changed, it wasn’t that long ago that accidentally scanning the barcode of the Club Cards at self checkout triggered a whole todo.

Haha, yes, I did exactly that a couple of weeks ago.

Silly me, I misinterpreted the error message as if I had scanned a non-existent product. It locked up the checkout terminal too.

Lovely self-checkout supervisor explained that I had used "another company's card" which was common. She did not seem to want to actually say who the other company was though!

I departed before I embarrassed myself any further.

TBH, barcodes are pretty ancient too,

A few years ago we were promised that RFID would revolutionise shopping and that they would be able to read everything in your basket/trolley just by moving past a scanner...

I guess they forget to check with the bean counters who presumably told them that "RFID chips cost $$", but black ink is basically free... and so we're stuck with them

Reminds me of when credit cards first started .... even back in the ZipZap days I recall about only 1 in 10 operators checked that the signatures matched.

My wife turns her card over and makes sure the staff check it (Farmlands card that requires sig at certain merchants). Many of them simply don't know to check
