SepticSceptic:

Click beetles and black beetles ..

Anyone get many, or any, this last summer ?

I recall them being a real nuisance, and would get a dozen or do click beetles on the house, and spend hours tracking them down.

Black beetles would be all over curtains and netting.

This year, not a solitary beetle . .

Don't have any robo sprayers.

Hopefully not in decline as they are probably an important food source for birds, etc

FWIW Palmerston North simply does not have click beetles.  They were quite the novelty when I shifted however and in this new town yes it seems this year there are a few less than last.

They're a lot of fun in a house with a laminate floor!

My wireless access point has a minimum RSSI setting with the description: "When the signal strength is lower than the minimum RSSI, the client will be disconnected (unless it's an Apple device)."

How are Apple devices different, and what happens to these devices in this situation (i.e. when the signal strength is lower than the minimum RSSI)?

Grandkids like playing with click beetles in cupped hands.

The Beko fridge will need the man to come check it out. It’s a second fridge stuffed into a corner of the laundry with abysmal access around or in front of it. Can’t be pulled forward only twisted around sideways to get to the back and only if I remove the small cupboard next to it.

Question would they need access to the back or do they work on it from the inside where the thermostats are. If from the back I have the huge job of emptying the cupboard and getting it out of the room. Hand wringing, why did I make it all so compact. Mental note to buy rolling castors for cupboard while it’s out! Plug is also behind it.

Depends on what's gone wrong. Almost certainly need to unplug it for safety and testing.

Sack barrows and similar can be useful for moving fridges/cupboards while loaded.

Refrigeration cycle work will need rear access.

There isn’t enough wiggle room for any loading carts. Shoved in the corner even the laundry door is a nuisance and since installation I added some tall shelves to opposite wall which I only wanted to be hooked to the wall, for easy movement… but the carpenter insisted it was better to put a screw through the wall and floor. (Why don’t they listen)

So now it’s not easy to move the shelves out either. Plus he used some weird headed screws with his noisy drill thingie which I also questioned because we don’t have one of those brutal machines to unscrew it and who can lift one anyway while balancing on a stool. The man with the tool is overseas.

Not looking forward to any of this and will start with buying some castors for the cabinet bottom which I now suspect might need a frame to secure the wheels on to it or maybe I can find a 400x400 dolly to sit it on.

This is NZ; tall sets of shelves are a pretty serious hazard in a quake.

You can generally remove most screws without an impact driver. Be glad it wasn't philips or flathead; they're a pain for removing long screws that require significant torque.

Agree but have always used a nylon strap on the others. We have timber walls so easy to attach anything to.

Did you leave enough gap around the fridge to allow the cooling system to work effectively ?

The grids are either at the back of the fridge, or embedded into sides, in between the inner plastic case and the metal external case.

If not sufficient ventilation , the compressor will be over worked, and have a shortened life span.

Yes there is a lot more gap than what was required on all three sides. It’s not inside an alcove. Have come to term with having to move everything out of the room to give the man some space to work on the back assuming they don’t need to take it away.
Was mildly hopeful they could fix from the inside where the thermostat is.

Does anyone know where this depot is? I assume in Hamilton somewhere, I have tried googling, and putting in tracking number into likely providers Aramex, NZ Couriers etc.

In a spelling Bee at High School where there are some Maori words etc, are you expected to say when a Macron is present etc, or just spell it with regular letters?

Cliché is another example.

Vëřý ğôõd qūėšțìôň.

ChatGPT says:

In most English-language spelling bee competitions, including those in New Zealand and the United States, spellers are not required to specify accents or diacritical marks (such as acute accents, umlauts, or tildes) when spelling words aloud.”

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
