When you measure PD remember your eyes point inward when reading, so if you're doing reading glasses focus where you would when reading, if not focus on the middle distance.

Because I ride a motorcycle I like to have frames that flex a bit, so I just use some Ray ban frames (aviators) - these can be gotten online for about nz$100. The lenses I have are plastic this time around, but I have the max transition and an anti-glare coating on both sides - also have them set so I can see detail quite a long way away.

I just got some Ray Bans, I find them really pretty poor. The nose pads don't pivot, they use a 1920's mounting system. I'm probably going to have to pay $120 to get the whole nose stalks replaced with something decent as I can't get them sitting right.

I just bent mine to fit, since they were cheap frames. But I am pretty basic, if I can see and they don't fall off, all is good.

Can people who have shopped at Specsavers tell me what was the attraction? Was it the price, convenience, and/or anything else?

Bottom line cost I can get two single vision lens with frames for example for $369 give or take. Everywhere else I would only get one

Note I only require a light reading prescription +1.25 and have no desire to be 'up sold', so the real question is why go elsewhere ?

What I have noticed is that in most places frames I can see are usually double or more what they can get got from ordering the same on-line from overseas e.g. many frames I have looked at are NZ$300 but often half that cost on-line but the lens and tests are comparable. It would seem that NZ's are paying too much for frames ?

Suspect we're overpaying for everything. When you use the online glasses places both frames and the their quality lenses are much cheaper than in NZ.

I got my glasses on holiday in Thailand. Look good, work fine, didn't cost more than a couple hundred dollars for two pairs.

I ordered a pair of single vision prescription sunglasses from Ezyglasses yesterday. They're doing free tinting until 31st Oct. Cost $19.95. You can spend more but these are perfect for just leaving in the car, around the house, whatever.
These are the 5th pair of glasses I've bought via them over the years and they've been great. Only thing is if you buy on-line you should still have a regular check-up particularly as you get older. I do have the advantage that my partner is in the profession.
