That's true, and there are a couple of simar Sunday morning shows on One. It's kind of amazing after so many years of 630/730 current affairs grilling politicians every weeknight. Those Sunday morning shows and that's all.

Maori TV may be in the best position to build a serious show in primetime. These days I guess the politicians feel very little obligation to show up.

Maybe we should petition that Mr Wayman ...

a. Fixes his website and

B. Returns to Hong Kong and Shanghai and forced to petition against more important Chinese issues.

By the way be careful about adding text inside a quote block. Cutting is fine and necessary, but, adding can be really misleading sometimes esp when quoted again a few pages later cheers.

Given this, I wouldn't hire the person who started the petition as my lawyer, as he doesn't seem to understand the law.

Amy Adams can't, by law, direct TVNZ on the employment of an individual staff member. Those decisions are legally the responsibility of the Board, and she has no legal power to issue such a directive. It's kind of odd for a lawyer to be petitioning a Minister to break the law.

I'm also puzzled why he thinks the ASB has the power to sack Hosking. To the contrary, as sponsor, I suspect they would be delighted with the ratings he gets.

Will be interesting next year at election time, as politicians love to be seen on TV. This will be one of the first times in recent history there hasn' tbeen a mainstream show that does this. They have those stupid debates with the worm, often hosted by the likes of a Hoskings, Henry, or Campbell, but they are really just soundbites and not real debates.

The fact that politicians hardly ever actually answer a question though, shows how much a waste of time interviewing politicians is.

So a group of people disagree with some of Mike Hosking's views expressed on TVNZ's "Seven Sharp". Is this really grounds for setting up a petition to get rid of him?

If this sort of behaviour becomes the norm, don't you think this is a vote against freedom of speech? After all, Seven Sharp is the most watched show at 7pm so perhaps the "silent majority" don't have any issues with Mike Hosking's views?

Any TV news show is likely to have controversial stories and views expressed on it, so people like Paul Henry and John Campbell could also be in line for similar petitions if this one is successful! Do we really want news shows to ban controversial views from being expressed and thus become super boring?

I would be interested to hear your views on all this.

There isn't any balance.

That's the issue. Mike Hosking is just the National Party cheerleader du jour. It wouldn't matter who it was. The issue is a cuurent affairs programme so one-sided it's ridiculous.

Anyway....I fired Mike Hoskings years ago at my house. Along with TVNZ. They shill for this government.....or they get their funds cut and a bigger dividend demanded from them. They were already forced to move out of their headquarters and part of it sold off so Sky City could have more casino space. You'd have to be a pretty dim TVNZ manager to not get THAT message as to where this government's priorities around public broadcasting lie.

But what am I saying.....the government made that clear when they abolished the public broadcasting charter 5 years ago.

The reasonable response in the case of a lack of balance would be a petition to start another 'balancing' current affairs show. But wouldn't you know it, the outrage brigade prefer to stifle expression.

Or a vote by shareholders requesting that the CEO review the situation.

How is it not? Turn the leaf over and the situation is that someone on here doesn't like a post, they start a petition to get you fired, is that not bullying?

Bah humbug. Its just a TV show, watch it or don't watch it. I could start a petition for anything, and only the supporters will sign it, so its meaningless. That show has high rankings, so a petition to remove one of the two key parts of the show is meaningless. Its a "show" its not a couple reading the news. For every show that exists there are some who love it, like it, dont like it or hate it.

As to his attitude, well every TV personality has a "thing", watch it or don't watch it.

Hosking is frequently a shock jock on 7S. People do react to that kind of presentation. A petition or protest of some kind was probably going to happen sooner or later.

I watch it from time to time if im there when its on, I dont see him as a shock jock. 7S is not a news reading show, its not even a news show, its an entertainment show based on current affairs. I think people need to get over it, switch channels to what they want to see, rather than play PC brigade.

We talk about freedom of speech, freedom of choice, now we want to selectively ban whoever doesnt suit our desires, morals, beliefs? The easist way to ban Hosking is to ban that channel for that half hour. Clearly that isn't happening as 7S has high ratings. Which brings it all back to a personal PC brigade by that lawyer.

The outcome? Increased ratings I suspect as others check out 7S

It probably is. Imho there will be some terrible effects of that legislation sooner or later. Is Mike Hosking streaming via tvnz also guilty of cyberbullying in the BSA waitress scenario? Probably is under that cyberbullying legislation.
