You might end up with smoke alarms on the floor. I am no expert but most tape I have experience of tends to lose its adhesiveness over time, even duct tape. You can always try it and see what happens.

Eva888: Smoke alarms need replacing and I am thinking Cavius this time. Because our super high ceilings are difficult to reach is it viable to stick the alarms up with strong double sided tape on to beams?

Viable imo to stick the holder but tape is the wrong product. There are adhesive tape pad like products for this purpose which is probably what you mean. Someone will be along with the names hopefully..

Alarms need to be near the top of the space. If you're talking about sticking them on the bottom of trusses near head height, but the ceiling is a meter or two higher, that will reduce detection effectiveness.

Probably an exposed rafter or joist as shown in this example. There are magnetic mounts but there are serious tapes similar to mounting pads.

I have the utmost respect for medical professionals but I can't figure out why they say a "small scratch" when they go to to stick a needle in you.  Surely a "sharp prick" would be a more appropriate term?🙃

Scratch is something I do to soothe an itch after a sandfly bite or somesuch, or what you get if you accidentally rub your leg on a raspberry bush.

Surely they said "'tis but a scratch" and you missed the chance to reply, "A SCRATCH? YOUR ARMS OFF!"?

I like my young GP. He’s very astute and dresses immaculately - but I wouldn’t dare describe him like that.

Saw that ad. I've been wondering if foldout phones are good as e-readers.

Well, the reason I read with a Kindle is weight and eink displays. No searing eye pain at bedtime.

Plus if I fall asleep and my Kindle drops on the floor in its case I don't worry. If I did it with a 3300 phone......

Short answer? No. Long answer? There's absolutely no comparison.

Kindles have front lights, meaning light reflects from the screen to your eyes, rather than shining directly like on a phone. I don't understand why they are far more relaxing to the eyes, but they are.

In the middle of the night, turning on a kindle that has been set to a low light level is very unlike turning a phone on with the feel of it burning your retinas.

How would a professional chef be able to cook dishes they didn’t like?

I’m not one but there’s plenty of things I won’t eat and therefore don’t cook: a chef doesn’t have that luxury, but if they really detest, say, tomato soup, how would they know whether the dish they made was good or bad? In this example, every iteration would be bad.

I'd say, they could check for flavour and balance from a sip test even if they hate it.

I despise asparagus, but I know a good roasted asparagus+garlic dish when it's served.  (I also know it's healthy so eat it regardless).

Asparagus rolls?  *blergh*

Love them - always a draw card at post-funeral refreshments.

BNZ currently have a promotion running for Advantage Visa Classic credit card - make five online purchases before 31 August and be given 7,500 BNZ Points. Among the ways to redeem these points is cash-back - the points are worth about $50.

Surely there are ways to game this? Eg If you could be bothered, you could buy five $10 Bunnings online egift cards for yourself. Then spend those on things you need to buy anyway - plus get the $50 cash-back.

They know and don't care if you game it, it's simply about getting people to get the card. Most people either lack the discipline or resources to pay their cards off every month in full, so interest overall will well and truly cover the losses they make short term.
