BaaaaD: How do i go out my way and not selling the plate to him when he sends me those emails and txts.

Nothing was advertised, me and him got into a txt conversation about number plates.

You did agree to sell so there may be a contract (or at least agreed to "fill out the forms" so maybe not) but certainly never got as far as agreeing to receive the money within a particular time frame. His threatening behaviour may be valid reason to reneg on the sale if the lawyer says so. There may be an argument that you only agreed what the plate was worth with an option to sell, and thats something to get advice on if you really don't want to sell.

Honestly its just a plate, so why not put the money into some other asset anyway.

Dairyxox: You wern't drunk when you sent those messages were you? Because that could be an 'out'.
Because you cant enter a contract unless you are sober etc..

Really, where did you hear that? I would think they would have to prove they were drunk, which would probably require affidavits from other parties.

It is one of the six elements of a contract.

You must have mental capacity - You must be of sound mind and not be under the influence of drugs and alcohol...

Just the way he stopped replying to the seller he stopped replying here too once he knew he was wrong.

ajobbins:
sidefx: ...but if I were the buyer I wouldn't view a deal as "done" based on a txt message.

I think this is a very key point specifically because of the fact that both parties were under the understanding that a formal agreement was to be completed prior to the exchange. This suggests to me (IANAL) that there would be a very good case to say the contact was not finalised and was still in negotiation.

Good point. There was definitely an agreement to conclude an agreement, which means nothing is finalised and potentially no sale since you backed out and never sent your bank details or confirmed that he had correct understanding. Hes obviously trying to get you to say something that makes the deal binding, if its not already, otherwise no need to ask for it all in an email if he can already prove it.

I don't know why people who have a little pride in their vehicle brand it with a string of random letters and numbers that don't show the slightest bit of personality.

Different strokes . . .

If the plate is true... http://www.solideights.com/Articles.html

I think the number 8 is a lucky number for Chinese.. Could explain the price and fight over it.

88888 used to be on a 1962 Ferrari 250 which would be worth mega bucks

I doubt that is the plate since anyone with that much money would already be smart enough to contact a lawyer
