Mark:
nathan: Condone I the opposite of condemned

I guess they did this because it was a Jewish supermarket

Ooops!  Typo on my part!

Whiles it's kind of wrong to see any humour in the whole Paris situation, I have to say this little mix up made me smile.  The spellings are so close, they could even be mixed up by auto-correct, and by heck they two of the last words you'd want to get mixed up.

Mark: Something of mild interest about this, is that the NZ Jewish Council condone condemn the attack!

I can't quite work out why they felt the urge to release that press release other than to maybe jump on the "hey look at us" bandwagon ?

Probably because Judaism has also been the subject of Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

I see the brothers in the French Terror Incident were removed from watch-list 6 months ago as they were deemed low risk. Yet another case of government having the laws at their disposal but as usual being completely useless.

Also highlights how easy it is to pull off such an attack laws or not.

a) obtain illegal AK-47

b) steal a car

c) go somewhere where there are lots of people

The knee-jerks have begun

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jan/13/david-cameron-encrypted-messaging-apps-ban

So to enforce Cameron's ban, open source, compilers, side-loading, installing from sources other than government approved app stores would need to become illegal.

Power grabbers use any excuse to try and enforce new laws that would only make it easier to snoop on everyone and not solve the problem.

"Ah you use encryption? You must be a terrorist. "

Next they will outlaw websites other than banks using SSL or not connecting through government approved proxies. Oh, welcome to China.

What exactly do you see the benefits of them doing this (to them) unless it's to stop crime?

China?! Gimme a break! Perhaps if you want to appreciate just how far from China we are, you could spend some time there?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I am not worried about THEM being able to stop crime, but about this weakening communications for EVERYONE.

Read the link Nathan posted above. A weak chain of communications can be used by good people and bad people. The problem is that bad people will do it automatically - like we already see happening with botnets, ransomware, pharma scams, etc.

You want to hand the keys to everyone's computer systems to bad actors?

Yup... when did you ever hear a Police commissioner say "We have too much power in this particular area... please rewrite the laws to reduce it"?

The legal system is a ratchet to continually increase the power of the powers-that-be.
