I do put our rangehood removable aluminium filters into the dishwasher periodically - great idea, works well. I do the same with the cast iron frames from around our gas hob.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Another good idea...not sure ours would fit though.

If anyone knows of a way to clean the rings that sit directly under the burners and keep them shiny without hours of scrubbing I'd be keen to learn that as well.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Easy!

What I do is remove the rings, they just lift up. In a bowl put some baking soda then water. Don't make a thick paste, leave it somewhat runny. Paint it on with a small paintbrush and let it start dissolving the grease. After a few minutes run a finger across it to see if its dissolved down to the metal hob. Wipe off with paper towels. If stubborn, repeat. Now that most of the grease is gone, no need to scrub. BS is alkaline so dissolves the grease very well. Leftover baking soda will go chalky, either clean that with dishwash or I spray white vinegar which neutralises the baking soda and also cleans

Do a sample on a small bare part of the hob, see how that goes

If your range hood filters are aluminium don’t put them in the dishwasher obviously.

I'm not offended - 😂 - been on the internet too long for that nonsense!

But yeah, ok, cleaning the actual rangehood - simple green at a 50/50, or sugar soap, or meths.

Everything thats removable - dishwasher :)

I've experienced the reverse, someone who washed car engine parts in the dishwasher. Said it got them clean like nothing else could.

Too late...did mine ages ago and they went dull and ugly so since they can’t be improved on now, I keep cleaning them in the dishwasher to retain their new look.

What happens to the cast iron frames? Do they not rust afterwards?

Not at all - they come out beautiful. Bosch hob.

The dishwasher powder hasn’t affected our aluminium range hood filters either - they come out beautiful too.

Edit: Maybe they’re not aluminium.

My old man used to warm cast iron in the house oven before welding it, then straight back in to cool it slowly - mind you, that only ever occurred when he knew the old.lady was going to be out for a good chunk of time.

Was good for a while, not that long, then it needed regular cleaning. Never really stays good no matter how much 'maintenance' we do. Right now they come across twice a year to do a special clean to get it back to 'new'.

Everytime they come around there is something new to do. We have had it a long time, on multiple showers. When our shower exploded and we got an entirely new one, the shower didn't even stay looking great for 6 weeks.

Never again.

Tried hand washing our trivets (the cast iron frames) on the weekend, gave up and put them in the dishwasher - will never wash them by hand again…
