jarledb: I highly doubt they would taste the same. But from what I understand kangaroo and antilope (or was it deer) seem to be pretty similar. Enough so that there has been made tests to check what kind of meat it is. Kind of the same scandal we have had over here with horse meat in various products.

This is very true, I googled a list on endangered animals... this one had the best name

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Kiwi is a pretty good name too, but I would never dare bring that into a discussion as the one we have had as long as I am planning to stay in New Zealand for any considerable time..

And I would like to state that I would not object to anything you guys would want to do with these norwegian muppets (Should probably let this one lay, its not a good commercial for norwegians - trust me we are not all as braindead as these guys)

The yea/nah thing is often used as a filler, much like 'umm'. It's the words following the yea/nah that generally dictate the intention. Eg:
"Yea, nah, im sweet as eh" - No thanks.
"Yea, nah, go ahead" - Yup.

Choice = good.
JAFA = Just Another Fking Aucklander / Just Another Friendly Aucklander
Rangi = Poor work/temporary/botch-up job. Eg: "That plaster work looks a bit rangi".

Driving in the country - if you're driving slow then keep an eye on your mirrors and pull over if your're holding traffic up.

The naki = Taranaki
The Tron = Hamilton
Vegas/Rotovegas = Rotorua
The Rei = Whangarei

Kiwi's are notorious for being humble and not blowing their trumpets. I'm not here to debate if it's a good or bad thing, but be tactful about being boastful. Nothing will annoy a kiwi more if you try and top everyone elses story with your own or try to better it. If you are really good at something, just tell people that "You're alright" at it, but with a sly grin to indicate that you're actually really awesome.

You are expected to add a slight amount of exagerration to your story telling (But not too much), just as your listeners are expecting it so tend to downplay what you say.

chook = chicken
cuz = cousin, but more often mate/bro.
spag bog/spag bowl = spagetti bolognase

Some newer slang thats coming in:
totes = totally
amazeballs = good, amazing
deets = details

There are very few things that are off-limits regards cracking jokes - we're pretty laid back really.

Dude is from Norway so... probably not gonna complain about it being cold.

Someone else commented earlier about Canadians thinking its cold in NZ. The problem in NZ seems to be that you guys seem to think you are on a tropical island when you build your houses, truth is its pretty cold in the winters and some places also pretty windy. Add no or bad isolation and is going to be a cold house.

I put that down to the "she'll be right" mentality. Don't build a house with insulation, if you complain that it's too cold then you're just not tough enough, etc. A lot of NZ infrastructure, I believe, has been built with a lack of foresight and a lot of "she'll be right" and as a result, the infrastructure sucks.

Roads in NZ are actually better than the roads here, but then you don't have to deal with the cold that wrecks havoc on our roads every year. When the ground freezes and then expands you get interesting effects, such as this.

About the insulation: It saves on electricity and keeps you warmer, seems like a no brainer really :)

They actually look better than most NZ roads... unless you're in Auckland.

You guys have broader roads than us. The roads I have driven on (from Hamilton and down to Wellington a few different routes) have been of good quality (with some roadwork and gravel roads here and there).

So yeah, nah. :)

Kopkiwi: Football. There is no such thing as soccer.

The English seem to want this fallacy to predominate, yet they are the ones who came up with the name "soccer" in the first place, short for "association football".

In NZ there are many rugby clubs with the name "football" in their official name, hence many have "rfc" (rugby football club) in their name. In Wgtn there is a rugby club simply called "Poneke Football Club", so to call soccer football in this country, imo, is stupid.

Not to mention with the, at least, 6 varieties of football around the world it's silly to just call one of them football. (Rugby union Football, Rugby League Football, Aussie Rules Football, Gaelic Football, American Football, Association Football...)

True. For instance, the comma in the above sentence would be better replaced with a semicolon, and 'Nazi' arguably deserves a capital letter. Not to mention that one should avoid beginning a sentence with the word 'and'.
