nathan: he should go setup a petition against the Chinese government and see what happens.

It amazes me that so little is happening with news in NZ that the media party have to resort to publishing this guys brain farts.

God speed.

Just as well though. Who wants to be cursed with 'interesting times'? We have enough problems...

If you don't like Hosking because you think he is (or he actually might well be) a prat, then don't watch it - There is Garner on 3, Shortland Street on 2, and failing those too - turn the thing off altogether perhaps...

That's my thought anyway!

Gawd, why has this now become a thing to sign petitions to get people thrown off media shows because they hold and espouse views some people don't like,

I can't abide some of the lefty dribble that comes out of National Radio on Sunday Mornings.... so I don't listen... problem solved,

and to paraphase a character on an old Scifi show (virtual choccy fish to anyone who guesses it)

Interesting.

I am old and conservative.
I hate commercial radio.
I've been listening on National Radio on Sunday for 40 years, and I've never heard any "lefty dribble".
If anything, I consider National Radio to be slightly right of center.

Perhaps I should get my hearing tested  wink

Well, it's now reported on "Stuff" that Mike's supporters have recently started a "Keep Mike" petition:

http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/tv-radio/81398157/mike-hoskings-supporters-start-keep-mike-petition

This petition, started by Dan Gray, can be seen here:

https://www.change.org/p/keep-mike-hosking-at-tvnz

It has nearly 600 signatures at the moment and says:

"Lets sign this petition to keep Mike Hosking at TVNZ for the  same reasons people want the petition signed to get rid of him, but with the same absurdity."

The petition letter simply says: "Keep Mike Hosking at TVNZ".

Do you think this "counter" petition will add some balance to this issue?

Cheers

Fred

I think the only thing it adds is that "losers" will try and counteract the other "losers" while the winners quietly take advantage of it - Mike Hosking in particular. He must be laughing his head off at this.

It continues to astonish me that, with all the channels out there, not to mention competing options such as Lightbox and Netflix, as well as handy devices called remote controls, people persist in watching TV shows that they dislike so much.

Honestly, if you don't like a show, then switch it off or watch something else. This isn't like 1984 with telescreens. It isn't compulsory to watch Hosking (or Jeremy Clarkson, or anyone else).

I almost feel sorry for someone who has a life that is so empty and devoid of meaning or purpose that they have nothing better to do than pour their time and energy into something as pointless and futile as trying to replace a TV presenter who has opinions that they don't agree with.

I think in the long term if you let a puppet like hosking have centre stage for long enough you'll end up with a population of people who think like him. I hope I'm wrong but when you look at the likes of trump/[removed] you can see that people become tolerant of them.
Nz media seldom hosts intelligent discussions/debates or has deep investigative journalism. Yet we (as a democracy) need that.
At present we have hosking/henry matthew hooten and cam slater all over TV and radio giving nothing but their opinion.
If you want decent journalism the only place left is q and a or radionz

Are you saying then that people are too weak to make their own opinions? Do we need a continual slight shift left/right of centre in order to think for ourselves?

Sorry, but I've always felt that NZn'ers were above that.

I'm saying that a lot of people are vulnerable and easily influenced by the same repetitive messages.

In all seriousness if the human race is to get ahead we need to think about problems in a greater scope that left or right. We need to encourage people to think, to evaluate and investigate, not just to agree or disagree.
