We were holidaying in Whitianga with our 3 kids and some good friends with their 3 kids. We spent the day at a beautiful, classic Coromandel beach - white sands & blooming Pohutukawa trees. Our friend (who happens to be a national champion free diver) headed out off the beach and came in with a full quota of big scallops. It was getting into evening so a fire was built and turned into a make-shift BBQ - the scallops were cooked right on the beach - the most juicy, sweet, succulent scallops EVER!
