And of course nothing happens in the world on weekends and unsocial hours so no need for news then!

Ah yes, the old "I don't personally consider these relevant so therefore they are not 'news'" Good Time Sunshine Bad. Fresh from the "People who don't like what I like are dumb" tour and promoting their latest album "Only the things I deem relevant have any cultural value and everyone else is a sheep".

Rikkitic:

Why shouldn't SBS and ABC also have an NZ news section? They do it for the Australian states.

Because SBS and ABC are funded by Australian taxpayers to produce Australian news. They are not funded to have news about New Zealand, and their constitution is unlikely to permit accepting funding from outside Australia to produce non-Australian content. What you are asking for is just not possible for them, and more than the US PBS having a New Zealand news section.

I understand that. My point is it should be possible for New Zealand to become part of the Australian rights area so New Zealanders could contribute to that funding and receive the benefits of those services. We are talking about economies of scale here. Being part of Australia for rights purposes would give us that economy of scale.

I doubt that Kiwis want the news diluted by Oz news and vice versa

No thanks, I think you're in the minority. I'm not really that interested in news from Australia being crammed down my throat.

Me neither. I want to know what's happening in my backyard, not the neighbours.

If closing down TV3 means we don't have to listen to Mulligan again I'm all for it.

But if it is shut down we might miss out on insightful and relevant commentary like this:

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/lifestyle/2019/10/ryan-bridge-kiwi-vegan-loonies-are-treasonous.html

On second thought, close it all down, burn the building and salt the earth it once stood on.

Thats shocking and embarrassing. If that and Richardson were on a comedy reality show that would be fine, but when you genuinely turn on to view the news and you see this rubbish, OMG. They are just actors not news people. You'd do better watching MAFS

With freedom of speech and the Press  comes the good the bad and the ugly. If we are only going to allow a perceived good then we are dispensing with freedom of speech and the Press. One just has to exercise ones right not to view, listen or read the stuff one deems as bad.

I guess but its just tabloid rubbish. Is it news or is it entertainment? Maybe we do need to bypass NZ news and watch foreign coverage of what happens in our own country

Its not news vs other news, its news taken over by loud, brash, attention seeking entertainers.

He should have read the links in his story. The first one says that those who eat fish but no meat get all the benefits of vegetarianism and none of the consequences. So beef and lamb are not necessary ingredients in anyone's diet as he is trying to make out.

The second link states that some vege meat substitutes have too much salt, not all of them. As with anything, read the ingredients.

I didnt read it either, I skimmed it, and when I see sensationalism, credibility has ended

I dont expect modern news readers to read the news as they did 50 years ago, but I don't expect entertainment when I watch the news.
