I am 22 but yet to master shaving to a point where I am satisfied.

Razor blades are blimmin expensive annoying things to buy and as much as you try and stretch them out they only really last up to 3-4 shaves. Which sucks if you shave every 1 or 2 days.

I must have sensitive skin or something under my chin because it is not uncommon to find bleeding cuts under my chin after shaving no matter how much care i take. Shaving after hot shower with warm water, shaving foam 'for sensitive skin', with the grain then against doesn't seem to make a difference still get cuts.

I have tried single blade disposables (crap), mach3 (non turbocharged) and Schick quattro titanium.

I have been thinking about single bladed safety razors. I do not know anything about them, how does the blade cost compare? where is a good place to buy them from (blades and / or razor)?

I have heard some people shave with oil maybe i should try that. Shave cream for sensitive skin seemed to make no difference at all and i feel like I am just buying hyped up over-marketed products. The packaging which tries looks like some high tech piece of equipment produced by nasa is an indicator.

Looking for tips, tricks and experiences.

It's full of lots of great info.

I've tried and used a number of different razors and I'm currently using King of Shaves Azor and find that this is the best yet I have come across on a number of fronts:
- best shave
- long lasting blades
- cost of blades

I would high recommend them. And they do Shaving Oil also. Never used it myself, so can't comment, sorry.

Use water as hot as possible before hand as I find it creates a smoother surface to shave.

I have always used electric. The Braun top of the line ones with the foil I have found give the best/closest results, think it is called syncro. I have tried philips ones, and they miss too much and not close enough, and can give me a bit of a rash. You will save a lot with electric, but you need to make sure you get a decent one, and not one of the cheap ones. The only downside is that it can take longer, and it may not be quite as close, but I have never had a problem with that.

I second that about the Philips! I use to use one of them (for many years) and was never happy with the result. That's why I finally went back to blades.

I have a braun electric for backup / when i need a quick shave / because it given to me. I use the little trimmer thing on the back of it more than anything. Electric is ok, but i could never go full electric, it just doesn't have the closeness.

I found that using the 5-bladed head (cant remember what brand) did the best job for me. I use a lot of foam as i have very sensitive skin, and I find pulling my skin very tight helps, and with the 5 blades I use a lot less strokes

My only advice is; let the razor do the work, just pull it along. I get bleeding under my chin when I forge this and try to push too hard.

I use a Mach 3 and get a few weeks out of the blades, shave about twice a week. I used oil to shave with when King of Shaves sold products here, if you ever find them they are great, and don't forget to tell me where.

Didn't anybody tell you I was a hacker?

I used to have similar problems with sensitive skin, all the gilette and schick razors always gave me quite severe shaving rash.

Try using the king of shaves shaving gel i found this to be a great help.

About 6 months ago i got myself a Comoy single bladed safety razor, it takes a bit of getting used to and you can cut yourself a lot easier if your not careful.

Blade cost for these i paid something like $5-6 for a 5 pack of blades. ive probably used 5 so far since i bought it.

I got it from shavershop.co.nz but there are other places around that should sell this sort of razor....

Can't help too much with advise really since I just hack my face off every other day in the shower sans mirror with no dramas, but I did have a shave one time (on a dare while doing uni work experience) in a greek barber wielding a cutthroat ... very scary experience but extremely good shave!

You are keeping your skin stretched tight while you shave yes ? Not creasing it into sliceable wrinkles ? No random twitches of your hands ? Not pressing in hard with the razor ?

I always throught it was quite hard to cut yourself with modern razors. And I've never got on with electrics, always felt plucked afterwards :-)

I think it also depends on whether you have always used electric, or not, as I think shaving with a blade or electric can change your skin. So I think it is either or with shaving. I do find that putting a new foil on the shaver makes a huge difference and is as good as blade shaving, so replacing it every six months could be an idea, but that is expensive considering a foil costs about $80. Still cheaper than blades though. But the foil in mine is about 3 years old and still cuts well. But they are very easy to break, and they can wear out/crack.

It is very easy if you don't usually do it, and are used to electric. I sliced myself quite badly once with a triple foil one.
The plucked feeling I think comes with the rotary ones, like philips. But your skin needs a few months to get used to it. I didn't get that though with foil ones.

I use the shave oils when I am travelling, as they are under the 100 mL liquids limit for flying, and not in a compressed container:

They work fine, just need to remember to keep you face wet with water as well. The only major problem is that the oil makes the shaved hairs stick to the basin. Not that is my problem, but the hotel cleaners!

I have a shaving mirror in the shower that I use, saves having to get cold when out of the shower and seems to irritate my skin less. Also use Gilette Fusion Razor...pretty expensive compared to other brands but does give the best result I reckon. Using shaving Gel instead of foam seems to work better as well as using a basic moisturizer (SP?) afterwards.

Every couple of weeks (ok, month) or so I give mine a run over with the trimmer, 5 minutes, bish bash bosh, job done.

Silly as it sounds, moisturize about half an hour before you shave if you can, and then afterwards. You might need to find the ¨right¨ moisturizer
to suit your skin but helps alot or the burn.
