Doesn't look like someone is having a good day!
Not sure how deep this is considering card services is also down.
Fingers crossed for them that it's nothing serious.

Yep.
Can't access the website at all, and Mobile App also doesn't allow you to log in
This posted Twitter:

Access via the app has gone down at least once a week throughout the lockdown. Usually back within an hour.

Westpacs website seem to be completely dead.
I had problems a few days with my bank not letting me withdraw cash from an ATM. It had an error that there was a tempoariy problem and to try again later. That is something I have never experienced before. Then I also had a problem accessing online banking with another bank for half a day last week, as they had problems. I would expect these things to be really reliable.
They're having some major problems at the moment: https://status.westpac.co.nz/
I can see lots of rejected transactions on our online store since lunchtime.
Gosh - it's been down for hours. Must be some Mr Robot level stuff happening - your mortgage and CC debt has been cancelled.

It looks like they had some maintenance last night from that status page that was resolved this morning. Wonder if it is related.
Still down. Absolutely shocking - timing couldn't really be worse. You can't even get through to the non-banking / non-interact part of the website (westpac.co.nz). Boggles the mind.
In a statement they said they couldn't text their customers and that even their contact centre is down.
Presumably exporting a list of your customers contact details / push notification keys nightly to some external service is too hard...
Not with them myself however that is a pretty big disaster for them really, Even their main website is down which does not distill much confidence in the infrastructure.
Yeah sorry about that does not really cut it I would not have thought.

I am not with Westpac but work is and I got paid today around 2pm and still not in my BNZ account at 7.36pm
Westpac is the governments banker as well, I've never seen an outage this big in my life.
Hopefully something has malfunctioned and not caused by a hacker.
Looks like if not fixed tomorrow, I won't get paid either, beginning prefix for account money paid from is 03....
Website back. Internet banking still down.
Interestingly Cashnav is still working but I think this be provided from a 3rd party.

And it was pension day today for superannuates. Extremely bad really considering our elderly are already feeling vulnerable and their payments in and out will be stuck.
I am not too sure what to think of the situation, I have been a Westpac customer since 2008 and never had a major problem with them personally, any issues were sorted and dealt with, though I have been responsible for banking decisions to make sure I wasn't caught out. Westpac seems to go down once a year, not been an issue for me as it's usually fixed within an hour but this year is something different, It shouldn't be happening, where are backups to IT systems?
My grandmother had an awful experience with Westpac as she had her handbag stolen during lockdown and Westpac made it hard for her to get her new cards, they sent her away at the branch because fraud and emergency cards because it's not essential. yet they are still charging her for the debt caused by the criminals.
Interesting...
I opened a Kiwibank account last year and will look at moving all my cash to them. Bye Bye Westpac.

This would be up there. I do remember a few telco ones that were similar or bigger in terms of impact.
There will be many folks burning the midnight oil to bring the infrastructure back online. I have every confidence that they'll be putting in mitigations avoid this from reoccurring.
I say this from past experiences working in a different in the trenches in a different industry.
