Hi everybody,

I live in Auckland Central and am moving to a new location within the same area. I am a heavy user of internet (around 40-50 GB
per month). Could you guys help me with the selection of

1. telephone service provider
2. broadband service provider

Obviously, I am looking for an unlimited broadband plan. Any advice, help will be greatly appreciated. Critreon is Best service at the Lowest cost.

From Telecom is the Go Large service, which is designed for people like you, but I don't know how good it actually will be, because they place people in a sin bin for a week if you download over 700mb in a week, or more than 200mb in a hour.

Ihug have a 60GB plan I have been on for a year or so now, which is around $80 a month, and has 400GB offpeak, and 20GB on peak.

Here's my take, especially since I helped a fellow friend (just from Australia) settle in the city.....

#1: If you want cheap cheap cheap... and don't mind abit of latency (hence not that good for gaming nor Skype):

Phone: Woosh!
Internet: Also Woosh
Quite unbetable in terms of price, really... Take care with their installation charges though, but if you're planning to use them for quite awhile, they're all right! And hey, support new innovations!

$79.95 total

#2: Otherwise........

Phone: Telecom (all other competitors are either same price anyway, or maybe even abit more expensive.. not much choice really)
Internet: Can consider Actrix (nice choice of plans) or Xnet (good service), or Slingshot (cheap), or Woosh (DSL Orbit flatrate=data-hungry)

$50 (Phone)+Internet ~$45-60 =~$100

#3: If you're up for IP telephony:

Try to see if you can hook in on several wireless options? Like... www.gasp.co.nz Then, use skype, or other IP options (like Xnet or Slingshot), to get your phone....

$70(Internet) + $10 (IP line) = $80...

Maybe consider other forum threads reagrding Telecom for broadband! Especially if you're thinkin of choosing the seemingly very tempting Go Large Plan!

I am also thinking about Woosh Quickfire Orbit Flat Rate. Do you or others have any comments on its speed, service, reliability etc.

Yes, I have seen other posts about Telecom Go Large - quite negative.
