Just saw on NBR that Australian company (Vocus) buys MAXNET...

Can't say I'm happy, especially since it says "The acquisition will be funded with bank debt and further consolidates Vocus' position..."
That sort of comment usually indicates that things will start falling apart in about 18 months time.

And here I was feeling all happy that I'm still with Maxnet :( Also disappointed to find out this way

I wonder if this has any relation to the sudden disappearance of the Fyx global mode feature? If I were looking at buying a company, I would be looking askance at gigantic potential legal liabilities in their service offerings...

(I see NBR came to the same conclusion... I actually hadn't read their article prior to coming to that conclusion. Hmm).

Unbelievable to me that Maxnet just started a new ISP and now they are bought by someone else. I wonder how much that had to do with the closing of global mode. I imagine Vocus had a bit to say about their potential liability. I imagine it must have happened quite quickly.

Hi guys. An email has just gone out to all Maxnet customers now. We do apologise for the order of events, but as Vocus is a publicly listed company in Australia there has been a specific order of events that have had to be followed. Vocus are renowned for fantastic service and they have a spectacular network around the world and we expect that there will only be an increased level of serviced provided to our customers because of this deal.

As a customer I just got a formal email about the announcement, seems to follow similar lines as the press releases thus far.

Maxnet also started using Vocus bandwidth a few months back..

Doesn't really come as a surprise, they were up for sale around the end of last year already as another NZ household name was boasting how they were going to buy them, guess they were wrong

Andrew: Actually I'd have to say that globally Vocus transit links tend to be worse and have more issues than others in my experience. I am not a Maxnet customer, but I have to be honest and say I can't see a publically listed company buying a small market player like Maxnet will be good for the customers in the long term.

Obviously just my opinion.

James (Vocus CEO) said today that Vocus loves Data Centres and internet connections. They were looking at building a Data Centre here in New Zealand anyway due to high demand for one in the Australian market. The opportunity came up to acquire Maxnet and the deal made sense.

But considering how full the Maxnet DC supposedly is (Only space for about 10-15 more racks last I heard), at least in the Albany one - is that really the reason? Or are they perhaps buying the brains and the plans for the expansion 'across the driveway'?

There is plenty of room at the Maxnet Data Centre for the current growth patterns, the expansion plans are known and will be executed in due course and will add a significant amount of new rack space to the AKL facility.

Yes I finally got the email about an hour after I heard about it on Facebook - kinda backward to me :(

Sorry about sounding a bit disgruntled - I do love Maxnet, so get a bit defensive about "my" brand when it seems that mucking about is being done ;)

Anyway - sell us on Vocus - I'm looking to hear what advantages me and my piddly little household broadband account will gain from them :)

... I remember when Quintin came around from the "office" in Snells Beach and set up my Maxnet account :D
